“There's a real emotional heart to Keane's music. Songs with clever riffs and lyrical hooks that dare to talk about the darker side of the psyche and humanity, yet never trash around in turgid waters”
GCN Magazine
Una is currently working on her debut album, which is due for a Spring 2010 release. You'll be able to hear a couple of Demos of the new songs here in the next few months...
Debut 4-track Saya Nova EP was released in late 2004 to positive reviews in the Irish press with title track "Saya Nova" being playlisted on Ireland's 2FM upon its release. July 2006 saw the Dubliner make her TV debut when she was invited to perform her song "The Art of Being" on BBC’s SRL show. 2008 proved to be an exciting year for Una, as she secured an IMRO scholarship to study Film Scoring at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Una's background is grounded in music, having studied piano and fiddle from a young age. She comes from a family steeped in musical tradition, with influences as diverse as classical, traditional and rock coming into play. She graduated as a Computer Scientist but later completed Postgraduate study in Music Technology at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. In 2004, Una founded The Piano Room, a Piano School for adults & children in South Dublin. She also set up D8/CASP in 2006 - a Creative Arts project for young people in the Dublin 8 area. The project is now in its fourth year.
The past few years have seen her open for Mark Geary, Nick Kelly, Ann Scott, Glen Hansard (The Frames), Mundy and Declan O’Rourke among others. She organised her first mini-Irish tour in 2004/5 to support her EP release, along with shows at the 12 Bar Club and The Playroom in London, which were very well received.
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk-carol on myspace... Poem 230 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (see my blog for details): CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY
As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.
Hi Una, long long time no see. Really enjoying the songs. I was about to start raving about Sandmaker but then Saya Nova came on now and it is even better. Great stuff! Well done. Looking forward to albybum.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
