Irish born Una Palliser lives in London working as a violist, violinist and vocalist. Having won a scholarship to study with Garfield Jackson (Endellion Quartet) at the Royal Academy of Music in London, she was awarded the Wolfson Trust award by the Academy, a Royal Philharmonia Martin Musical Scholarship Award, and was a string finalist in the RTE Millennium Musician of the Future Competition and winner of the Ensemble Prize, before graduating with a First Class Honours Degree in Performance.
As a string player, Una has worked and toured with Sir Colin Davies, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Thomas Ades, Avo Part, Maxim Vengerov and Vladimir Ashkenazy, recorded for BBC Radio, Lyric FM, Xfm, The Killers, Brand New Heavies, Mr Hudson, Tony Christie, Hugh Cornwell (Stranglers),Shapeshifters (Positiva/EMI), Gwilym Simcock, All Angels (Universal), Nicky Spence (Universal), Peter Kay, Paloma Faith, Lisa Hordijk, Emma Deigman, Phixx, soundtracks including Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones, ITV's Brittania High and BBC's Let's Dance, and performed live at Wembley Stadium, NBC Late Night with Conan O Brien, BBC1 Top of the Pops, Jools Holland, Jonathan Ross, MTV, BBC Culture Show, Transmission, Channel 4s T4 Special, O2 Wireless Festival, Hurricane Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Cactus Festival, Mobos, Record of the Year and The National Music Awards. She has also performed live with Omara Portuondo (Bueno Vista Social Club), P Diddy, Elbow, Amanda Palmer, The Noisettes, Ladyhawke, Mutya Buena, Josh Groban, Maximo Park, Myleene Klass, Gareth Gates, Tom Baxter, Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Alfie Boe, Richard Fleeshman, Mark Brown w Sarah Cracknell, Holly Palmer (Universal), and supported Prince, Girls Aloud, Amy Winehouse, Arcade Fire, Stereophonics, Keane, Geri Haliwell, Heatwave, Heather Small and Errol Brown . She also featured in Mark Ronson's music video Valerie.
This summer Una toured europe as violinist with MOBY. She was invited by Take That to join them on the TAKE THAT BEAUTIFUL WORLD TOUR (which won the Best Live Act @ the Brit Awards), on which she spent 4 months as the featured violist on the tour. Earlier in the year year she toured US, Europe and UK as solo violist/electric violinist with PATRICK WOLF (Polydor/Universal) including performances on the ARCADE FIRE and AMY WINEHOUSE tours. Una has completed two European tours as part of GNARLS BARKLEY's band with her electric string quartet SIREN. Her playing also features on the bonus edition of their record 'St Elsewhere'.
SIREN have also performed their own show as headline act in South Korea, for the Sheiks in Dubai, throughout Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Ireland and the UK and supported Girls Aloud and Rod Stewart. Una also regularly performs as guest solo violinist and singer with BBC Radio 3 World Music Award winners TERRAFOLK including as soloist with the Slovenian Symbolic Orchestra, at Queen Elizabeth Hall London, on BBC Radio 3's 'In Tune', the opening concert of the Snape Proms Festival and various festivals around the UK. She is regularly tours with the band as part of The World Famous' pyrotechnic spectacular show Full Circle and features as the solo singer/violinist on their single 'Still Resist The Storm', reaching number 1 on the Slovenian radio charts.
Una is the viola player in the CASTALIA String Quartet, recently completing a UK/Ireland tour with them and performing the premier of a number of works written for the quartet by CSL Parker. She recently recorded John O' Brien's Enlightenment Quartet with the string quartet of the same name. Una completed a world tour as vocalist and violist in stand-up comedy string quartet Graffiti Classics, travelling to over 20 countries including sell-out performances at the Edinburgh Festival and National Concert Hall Dublin and promotion of their Naxos CD in Norway. Una was the featured solo violinist in MTI's production of 'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change' and regularly plays viola in the West End production of Lord of the Rings.
As a singer, Una currently features as the soloist on the Specsavers advert, singing her arrangement of Irish folk tune 'Mo Ghile Mear'. She also featured as the lead and backing vocalist on theme tune to ITV1 prime time Saturday entertainment show Love on a Saturday Night presented by Davina McCall. Una was the solo vocalist on the soundtrack to short film Eva (Slate Films), voted Best Foreign Film at Long Island Film Festival NYC and screened at the National Film Theatre London and the Edinburgh Film Festival. She has sung live backing vocals for Elbow and worked as a session vocalist for various London based producers including Rose and Foster (Gary Barlow, S Club 7, Kylie), Richard Taylor (Westlife, Boyzone) and Christian Henson (BBC). Her voice was recently described as 'bewitching' by Songlines Magazine.
Una has written string arrangements for a number of artists and tv shows including on songs for ITV's Britannia High (written by Gary Barlow/Eliot Kennedy) and Peter Kay's Channel 4 show .. 'Britain's Got The Pop Factor....', Emma Deigman, Holly Palmer (Universal Records), Blayz, Terrafolk, Graffiti Classics, Siren, and an orchestral score for Slovenian Symbolic Orchestra. She recently co wrote the music for the Trident Splash advert. She is also an accomplished pianist and is one of the few Strohviol players in the UK. .
