Prior to 1498 peaceful trade had remained the norm in the Indian Ocean. But once the Portuguese had discovered the new route to India, war with the Unarmed Free-Trading Merchants became inevitable. Trade became systematically tariffed through the use of force. While colonization of Costal Africa, India, and Asia created an unprecedented flow of wealth to Western countries, the devastation to the local communities was immense. Unarmed Free Trade Merchants intends to recreate the peaceful fair trade that existed prior the British East India Company's unlawful occupation of these trade routes by providing each of their clients an opportunity to support global community through local efforts.
Our company is founded on the principles of free trade. We only source quality-handcrafted goods from the Artists themselves at asking prices. We want to create sustainable relationships both locally and internationally.
