A rockin' good time in VANCOUVER'S "OTHER GAY GHETTO", and a unique space loaded with history between Vancouver's GLBT communities. Watering hole, leather bar, dyke bar, dance venue - it's been all of these things.
"UNCANNY" is the name for LICK's monthly mixed night, where you can go to hear the stuff that's really out there waiting for you, "alternative queer anthems" for those who want to go out but don't want to hear the same music every time, knowing it's 2008 and all. New Wave and Disco had to be the gayest musical trends of all time, but they didn't die - they just mutated while you weren't listening, and they've cross-pollenated with all the music for big kids that you had to hide from your parents.
UNCANNY's a night for adventurers from various corners of the city's queer communities. It's a non-sexist, non-cliqueist, non-ageist environment.
The typical UNCANNY night (if there is such a thing) starts off with a pub-like atmosphere before shifting into crazy mode, with assorted musical antics and stage performances.
