We listen to just about EVERYTHING!
We're pretty friendly with the jam band crowd. Derek Trucks Band, The Allman Brothers, & The Dead are big personal favorites, but we follow a LOT of different bands, and Doug has played with a bunch. That translates to many, many folk, blues, jazz, country, & bluegrass influences, far more than we can list here.
We both love classic rock, and Lisa has a weakness for 90's bands like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Live.
Other influences? Indie bands, Motown & funk, Sun Records, Muscle Shoals, New Orleans, Lukenbach, Austin, the Bay Area, and so on... Heck, we even like pop!
UNCLE BETHEL is a singer-songwriter team featuring Lisa Carr on vocals and Doug Budzak on vocals and all instruments. They also operate Rockit Juice Audio, a demo production studio in Huntsville, AL.
The pair had been called VOODOO CHILI for the past 3 years, but when they began writing songs for the Nashville market, it was time for a change. The name "Strong & Beautiful" was considered for a time, but when the question, "Which of us is going to be Beautiful?" couldn't be settled they decided on UNCLE BETHEL, after a favorite uncle of Lisa's from Silver Point TN, because (a) they thought it sounded cool & (b) it wasn't already taken.
Lisa grew up singing in church, choruses, theater, and sitting in with the occasional band. She once performed in Luckenbach, TX, accompanied by a cadre of old-time players who likened her to Janis Joplin, probably due as much to her wild hair & tie dye clothing as her actual voice. Her most recent experience has been performing with choral ensembles, so UB represents quite a departure for her. She has written poetry for most of her life, and has been obsessively outlining her blockbuster novel for the past several years. She moonlights as a rocket scientist.

Doug is the resident musical genius of UB, with 40+ years' experience performing everything from funk to reggae to rock to country to jazz. Doug has shared the stage with many nationally-known artists, including:
Billy Preston, Phil Lesh (The Dead), Jimmy Herring (Widespread Panic), Jerry Jeff Walker, Burning Spear, Mark Karan (Ratdog), the David Nelson Band, Martin Fierro (Zero), Robert Randolph, Barry Sless (Moonalice), Pete Sears (Jefferson Starship), Little Feat, David Jenkins (Pablo Cruise), Merl Saunders, the Neville Brothers, New Monsoon, Key & The Players, Chris Rowan (Rowan Brothers), Barney Doyle (Mickey Hart Band), The Mermen, Tough Mama, It's A Beautiful Day, Joy Of Cooking, The Sons Of Champlin, David Gans, Gail Muldrow (Prince), Taos Hum and many others.
Doug has also been a member of some outstanding regional bands such as:
Mayflower, Tree, Free Flight, Pyramid, Step By Step, The Ravens, 1-800, die Seinen, The G-Men, NottaDread, Reggaenomix, DemBoyz, Gasoline Cowboys, Patch of Blues, The Bluescasters, The Crow Canyon Band, Buffalo Roam, Intervention, Crackdown, Funky Little Shack, Electric Reign & JC Flyer.
In addition to his work in the studio with UB, he is currently working on his plans for fitting a Hammond B3 and Leslie into the living room.
Lisa and Doug write their own songs and have also collaborated with other writers. They are members of ASCAP, BMI, NSAI & SGA. They have started to receive offers for live gigs and have booked some gigs in Huntsville and Nashville. Through their music they hope to get noticed as songwriters, make an obscene amount of money, and retire to the lake. Or at least have a whole lot of fun trying.

'Mean Girl' is another great song. I love the guitar playing Doug it really suits the mood of the song. Congratulations on your gigs. Look forward to hearing your next song! Great singing Lisa!!! How did you get inspired with the lyrics?? Rob & Fay
The Last Waltz I just want that thing When voices join in harmony And in that fleeting moment, Meaning coalesces on the ear, All dark, dissolving, clouds the alleyways no more And fresh bread scent of home pervades the air No sandal soles In dust of broken homes Nor callused toes peep bloody from the garment hem, And all the big parades And shock and awe And swagger on the carrier decks and medals Jangle helpless in the face of what is fair I just want that thing When friends draw in, some living some begone, Some brittle, none forgotten All beloved everyone. Then dash the glass into the fire Then well up unashamed my heart Beyond the reach of fear Of faith, blind, bigoted and drear And then across the great divide Rise men and women unafraid To dash in loss their bracelets at the wall, And hearing them Hope holds me in its thrall. I just want that thing When empathy prevails When man evolves beyond the crass And reason comes of age When dogma, cant, and witchcraft All are banished to the past When voices join in harmony at last.
