CLASSICAL PERSIAN POETRY: Favorite being Khajeh Shamseddin Mohammad Hafiz-s Shirazi

WORLD WAR ONE PROPAGANDA POSTERS:
Albert Hahn- 1915-War Winter, red becomes even better on white than on green.
Lately I have been looking at a lot of music on MySpace (yes I have fallen in) and have been re-exploring the much of the music of my misspent youth:
Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy (and, of course, the Mission UK), In the Nursery, The Bolshoi (probably to this day my favorite band), Ultravox, This Mortal Coil, Dead can Dance, Strawberry Switchcblade (extra points if you can name one of their songs), Xmal Deutschland, Alien Sex Fiend, Bauhaus and all the derivatives from that especially Dali's Car (P. Murphy and Mick Karn) , Oingo Boingo, New Order and Joy Division, Siouxsie (and the Creatures projects), Soft Cell (one of my favorite songs to this date is 'meet murder my angel'), Switchblade Symphony, Human Drama, just to name a few...
Hafiz -- I hold the lion's paw whenever I dance.
I know the ecstasy of the falcon's wings as they make love against the sky.
The sun and moon sometimes argue over who will tuck me in at night.
But Hafiz is willing to share his secrets on how to befriend God.
Indeed, dear ones, Hafiz is so verry willing to share all his secrets on how to know the Beloved One.
I hold the lion's paw whenever I dance.
I know the ecstasy of your heart's wings as they make love against the sky.
And someday the sun and moon will argue over who will tuck you in at night.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

thanks! I love his work. I have a book that I got from the Louvre as a child, its full of his designs as well as the costumes by Chanel, and backdrops by Matisse and Picasso. The Ballet Russe was a beautiful invention.
