  • Bio

Herb Dale is a country singer/songwriter who has been performing in Toronto for over three decades. As a seasoned bass player, Herb has joined the stage with some of Toronto's finest country, folk, and bluegrass musicians. Known fondly in the Toronto music scene as “Uncle” by a generation of young performers Herb has hosted and continues to host a multitude of open stages around Toronto. Many of of those performers started with one of Herb's open stages. Many will tell you that they continued to perform because of the encouragement and advice they received from him. Herb's unique and entertaining performances are a mix of favourite cover tunes by well known traditional country, bluegrass and folk artists, and his own original tunes. In 2004 Herb released two 4-song demo CD's "Bloodshot Glow" and "Ticket In My Hand". All eight songs are original lyrics and music. His hope as a songwriter, was to have some of these songs covered by young and aspiring artists who would bring their own interpretation to the tunes. In September 2006, Herb is releasing his first full-length CD "It's About Time" which features 10 of his original tunes and two "signature songs", that are performance favourites at his gigs. Produced and mastered by Sebastian Agnello of Turtleshell Music, the arrangements on this CD reflect the familiar style of his live performances - traditional country with a twist. Herb has performed at the the Toronto CityWide Roots Festival , Winterfolk, The Concert for Peace, and The Junction Arts Festival. He has also participated in a number of fundraising benefits for the Canadian Cancer Society, Roar Up Kilimanjaro for the CFID, The Bike For Life Benefit, and the ShoreSoundz Muzic Festival for The Gatehouse. Radio interviews include, CFRB's Rock Talk, CIUT's Howl and Take 5, and www.thatradio.com's Liquid Lunch. In 2007, Herb Dale and Fran McCann formed "The McDales" and now gig around town sometimes as a duo, and sometimes as a 5-person band. Herb continues to write and promote his original tunes.

Herb Dale has been performing in Toronto for over two decades. As a seasoned bass player, Herb has joined the stage with some of Toronto's finest country, folk, and bluegrass musicians. Known fondly in the Toronto music scene as “Uncle” by a generation of young performers Herb hosted an open stage at Shakespeare’s Café for almost 4 years. Many of them started with Herb's open stage. Many will tell you that they continued to perform because of the encouragement and advice they received from him. Alone or in concert, he has a rich textured sound, fine vocals and musical presence. Herb's unique and entertaining performances are a mix of favourite cover tunes by well known traditional country, bluegrass and folk artists. Herb commented once, "I will take any opportunity I can get to play, but my passion is writing songs. It is my dream to have some of the younger musicians to pick up my songs and cover them". With this dream in mind, in 2004 Herb released two 4-song demo CD's: "Bloodshot Glow" and "Ticket In My Hand". All eight songs are original lyrics and music. In September 2006, Herb is releasing his first full-length CD "It's About Time" which features 10 of his original tunes and two "signature songs", that are performance favourites at his gigs. Produced and mastered by Sebastian Agnello of Turtleshell Music, the arrangements on this CD reflect the familiar style of his live performances as a traditional country performer. Herb has performed at the Danforth Music Festival, the Toronto CityWide Roots Festival - Coffeehouse Stage(2005) Groovy Monday's Stage (2008), The Grange Festival (2006), The Sammy Sugar Festival (2007) Concert for Peace at Mel Lastman Square (2007), Winterfolk V (Feb 2008), and a number of fundraising events including The HereandThere Benefit, Canadian Cancer Society Benefit, Roar Up Kilimanjaro for the CFID, The Bike For Life Benefit. Radio interviews include, CFRB's Rock Talk, CIUT's Howl and Take 5, and www.thatchannel.com's Liquid Lunch. When Herb is not playing at his own gigs, the "Bloor St. Cowboy" is still a familiar face at many open stage venues across Toronto, and he continues to stay connected with the local indie music scene. In Sept 2006 he started another Open Mic at Dave's Gourmet Pizza which is still going strong every Thursday night. In 2007, Herb Dale and Fran McCann formed "The McDales" and now gig around town sometimes as a duo, and sometimes as a 5-person band. Herb continues to write and promote his original tunes.
