Uncle Lefty make music for “free thinkers and beer drinkers”. Heavy music for those disenchanted by the endless procession of would be cookie cutter-cookie monsters. We are the grandchildren of Iommi. A modern day ZZ Top, all hopped up on HGH and totally fuled by Satan! We draw our influence and inspiration from the southern fried groove- metal sounds of Corrosion of Conformity, Down, Black Label Society and the mighty Pantera, from classic outlaw hell raisers like David Allan Coe, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and George Jones, from the tasty sour Mash of Jack Daniels, from the majestic flavor of Johnny Walker and his partners Black and Red, from the unholy rock template that is AC/fucking DC, From the Sleaze of Guns N’ Roses, classic Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones, from the attitude and fury of the Misfits, Black Flag and the Ramones, from the sonic sludge of Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Nirvana too the speed and power of vintage Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer. We are followers of the left hand path and oh yeah, we likes us some Lynyrd Skynyrd too…a lot.
The concept of Uncle Lefty began in September of 2006. The brainchild of “The Minster of all things Sinister” Somerville MA native Angus Van Zant. For Van Zant Uncle Lefty was in essence a reaction to previous misguided heavy music projects that were derived from impure inspiration and with questionable motivations. After a few months of soul search, the project began to materialize for real in early 07, when Angus crossed paths for the first time with a mysterious 6-string prodigy and Haverhill, MA resident named Slingblade Karl Lawson. A mutual affinity for the blues, booze and pornography began to define a true, genuine path of destruction for the pair. A path permanently paved with addition of bassist extraordinaire and local rock luminary Wild Bill Jansen (Underbody / Used) and the thunderous, flawless drumming of Wilmington native Double Barrel Dave Baressi in early April of that year. Shenanigans ensued….
The Quarto entered Moontower Studios in Cambridge, MA along with producer and engineer Mike Quinn in August of 2007. The result is a 6-song demonstration of devastation called “Damn Good Question”. The virgin excursion was recorded, mixed and mastered in a little over 20 hours and is merely an appetizer of what the band have to offer (“it’s our salad….feel free to toss it”-AVZ). A proper full-length is already in the works and scheduled for release in the summer of year VIII. In the meantime the band continue to hone their craft in and throughout the New England Area, one blistering show after another.

UNCLE LEFTY Damn Good Question

Flat out ball-to-the-wall rock ’n’ roll-flavored metal is what Uncle Lefty throws at you. This thick, nasty shit is what the best rock music would have stayed sounding like, had grunge not swept the nation in the early ’90s. It’s got a great heavy mix of distorted guitars, solid drums, and just the right amount of “hop” or groove in the songs. The groove is what keeps it from getting boring and makes it more of a head-banging ordeal. It’s hard to pick a favorite—the songs are all wired together from and built using smart, ass kicking riffs. Sounds like a motherfuckin’ Les Paul or two. The band recorded the disc in Cambridge and consists of Angus Van Zant on guitar and vocals, Karl Lawson (a.k.a Slingblade) on lead guitar, Dave Barresi on drums, and Bill Jansen on bass. Do the right thing and hire Uncle Lefty… you won’t regret it. (Mike Loce)
