Uncle Leon and the Alibis have played everywhere from outlaw biker gatherings to a premiere party for Walk the Line, but they have always done their best work in the seedy dive bars of Brooklyn, New York, where they have been known to rile drunken crowds, mend broken hearts, incite people to quit their jobs, perform the occasional spontaneous faith-healing, and otherwise stir shit up. The band has developed a rabid and dedicated cult following, comprised almost entirely of voluptuous women of questionable repute.
In the past year or so, Uncle Leon and the Alibis have achieved a certain infamy among the numerous female Roller Derby leagues of the world, thanks to their accidental smash-hit single, “Roller Derby Saved My Soul”.
Fueled by wits, whiskey, and a whole lot of Derby love, the band made its first tour of Middle America in June of 2007. Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen. Y'all know who you are.
UPDATE! In January of 2008, plagued by gastric discomfort, rollergirl-induced insantiy, and spiraling debt brought on by years of subprime adjustable-rate bar tabs, Uncle Leon declared the end of the band. However, after a year of recovery, Uncle Leon has been dragged out of retirement!
First, the obviously deranged Scotsmen over at The Bluesbunny decided they just couldn't get enough, and set out to release a special vinyl-only version of Uncle Leon songs in the U.K.
Then, in August of 2009, Uncle Leon announced the official return of Uncle Leon and the Alibis, now featuring Miss Natalie Mustang (formerly of Sasquatch and the Sick-a-Billys, among many others) on drums. The band is currently embarking on Uncle Leon's Sunday Best, a Sunday-night series of bar shows, to be performed exclusively at Brooklyn's legendary Hank's Saloon. Hey Brother! Once again, it was an honor getting to slap the bass for you. Next time you roll into town, we'll do it up right! Just say when and I'll make it happen.
