Crowding Bay Area dance floors with there distinct brand of entertainment, headliner Uncle Melvin is ready to stir any size event, party, or wedding. Six-foot-six Band leader Henry Lange embraces the audience with engaging character. ‘Uncle Melvin, has a large presence and energy on stage, my job to bring that energy to everyone in the room,’ expresses the lead vocalist.
Uncle Melvin performs a variety of musical styles ranging from 70’s R&B to today’s Modern Rock, working hard at maintaining a top-tier position in the Bay Area club circuit. Says Lange: ‘The band is continuously works at keeping with the current musical trends while sustaining a strong collection of standards in the repertoire.’
Although a four-piece lineup, Uncle Melvin produces a rich full sound: drummer/vocalist Eric Monroe and Bassist Avey Gonzalez drive the rhythm section, allowing accomplished guitarist Eric James Knight freedom to texture the top end. While Eric and Avey provide a sturdy base, Eric can play anything from a Motown rhythm comp to a searing jazz flourish. ‘I base each show on the tempo and feel of the audience, so it is essential that I have a group of pros that can respond. We like spontaneity, so every performance is exciting and different,’ notes Lange.
In addition to a rock solid lineup, Uncle Melvin draws from today’s technology to broaden the bands sound and deepen the assortment of tunes. ‘If we need a horn section, or an orchestral passage, Eric can trigger a keyboard arrangement that he has played and digitally sequenced with exacting detail,’ discloses Lange.
A few years back, Uncle Melvin appeared on the MTV Networks nationally televised game show, VH1’s Cover Wars. Selected from thousands of bands around the country, Uncle Melvin was the only band chosen from California. Airing from New York City and hosted by Paul Shaffer, bandleader of David Letterman’s Late show, the band performed Live in front of a studio audience and a national viewership of literally millions. Being flown across country to the most exiting city in the world to perform at MTV studios is an experience that Uncle Melvin will surely never forget.
Bringing the energy and excitement of their live show to private events throughout the Bay Area, Uncle Melvin has recently performed at events for Microsoft, Netscape and the Pacific Athletic Club. The Band regularly plays at Mountain Charley’s in Los Gatos, Britannia Arms in Almaden, and Oneils in San Mateo & San Francisco.
