BIO
My name is Under Pressure, I am both an event and a magazine based out of graffiti. I came into being because the city of Montreal was constantly bad mouthing graffiti in the media. Then, fed up of all the bullshit the city was squacking, a couple of graffiti writers decided to hold an event to show the public that graffiti is not a gang thing, nor does it go hand-in-hand with violent crimes. One time, on the 6 o'clock news, a police officer lumped graffiti and rape in the same category. The first event was held in 1996 and we have steadily grown bigger, better and stronger since. Under Pressure is now also a magazine, focusing on graffiti, music, skate and whatever else comes across the editors minds. Now our enterprise has branched out to music, with the release of the 'Up North Trip' CD compilations, thus far 4 english and 1 french.
MAGAZINE INFO
Published twice a year, Under Pressure Magazine is really more of a collectible publication than a typical magazine. Featuring articles on hip-hop, hardcore, skating, boxing, art, photography, and whatever else catches our eye at the time, Under Pressure is an all-around youth culture magazine. And don’t forget about all the pages of graffiti flix – we started as a pure graf mag and we’ll never abandon the foundation we built on.
But what really sets us apart from all the other magazines is our coverage of Canadian artists, and it’s also what accounts for our success at home and abroad. There are enough magazines covering American content – we are one of the few publications that has the courage to stand behind Canadian talent and put it in the forefront. That’s not to say that we don’t give props (and pages) to American and international artists, but shining the spotlight on deserving Canadians will always be an Under Pressure mandate.
The Cause: Under Pressure was created to promote international awareness of Canadian talent, culture and history in art, music and dance, as well as the other varieties of the Hip Hop Culture.

Over the past 14 years, Under Pressure has been able to host the annual event "Under Pressure International Graffiti Convention" which in turn has allowed artists from all over the world to come into Montreal and display, perform, or even converse with other professionals, in similar elements of the culture, all at one event.
