Here's the band blurb:
With the “Empty Faces” EP scheduled for an online release Monday 27 October 08, and with CDs available from 14 October 08, Edinburgh-based Underbelly are set to win even more hearts and minds with their epic tunes. The 2005 single “Come In to Land” earned the band gigs with Nizlopi, Cosmic Rough Riders, Grim Northern Social and The Hedrons as the EP won acclaim in the press, notably in this review from The Daily Record:
“Come in to Land has the same kind of quiet and loud bits beloved of Gary Lightbody. There are heavy rock guitars and soft folk guitars. After hundreds of Franz Ferdinand copycat bands it’s great to hear a band following the success of Lightbody and co.” Daily Record
Underbelly have enjoyed attention from radio, press and TV on both sides of the Irish sea with the band’s strong Northern Irish/Scottish mixture. Radio 1 Scotland and Northern Ireland, Downtown and XFM Scotland have all taken the band on board with Come in to Land earning them a winning slot on Vic Galloway’s (Radio 1 Scotland) Demo Derby and Jim Gellatly’s (XFM Scotland) ‘Exposure’ feature.
Recently Underbelly were chosen to perform in the final 5 choices for the Forth One To Watch Award. This will see the band performing in The Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh to try to earn themselves a slot at the Forth One Awards in the Assembly Rooms in November, sharing the stage with a host UK music celebreties.
Underbelly have also walked the T in the Park ‘T-Break’ competition stage two years in a row in 2005 and 2006 as finalists selected from over 1,000 Scottish band entries each year.
The band have been building up the gigs gradually again and the few months will see them in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London. ‘Empty Faces’ has already earned the band some great reviews including this from Is This Music:
With singer-songwriters like Blunty and James Morrisson ten-a-penny and still pretty poor value for money, the importance of the band in fleshing out songs has been undervalued of late. And while it’s not clear how much the songwriting in Underbelly is a band effort, certainly the opening chords and verse on ‘Alive Again’ pretty much check the boxes for tunesmithery and light, delicate chart-friendly pop. However, wait for the chorus and the unprepared may have their roofs blown off – turning a slightly folky tune into a slow-building Snow Patrol-eqsue epic that would fit a stadium better than a folk club.” Is This Music July 08
Other Reviews:
"With this forthcoming single, which you can hear on their MySpace page, Edinburgh-based Underbelly have done it again with another epic tune. The lads have walked the T-Break stage two years in a row in 2005 and 2006, as finalists selected from over 1,000 Scottish band entries. Now it looks as if they're ready to stand on their own feet." Gary Flockhart – Evening News (June 08)
“...Alan Davison’s ability to crowd-please on demand, ably backed by Underbelly, he took us through a selection of rock belters in true troubadour fashion. His voice warmed up as the set progressed and by the end we saw the strongest lyrical rock of the night...” Angus Young Tennents ‘T-Break’ heat, Liquid Room May 2005
“A well-worthy EP” Music News Scotland (reviewing Come in to Land EP – Top 5 June 06)
I am very sad to hear that. I have always liked your attitude and music and style. It's hard ya know. Edinburgh is hard for getting a foothold on the music biz ladder. Very tough. Sorry to hear it. I'm currently in the USSSSSA.. Tucson Arizona to be precise. GUn Shows and Rodeos. Not a lot else to report.
Howdy Belly buddies. Loving your work as usual. So much so that my work CD drive has devoured my copy of your excellent live in 2007. Are there other copies available? hope to hear you all soon. AAAIII!!

Hi underbelly guys, we were really sorry to miss most of your set (except the first couple songs) on Saturday, we had to get the last bus back to Edinburgh :( I liked the first song - kind of chiming & melodical, cool. See you again hopefully. Lindsay x
