Influences
I started off listening to the likes of Hendrix, The Who, Tracy Chapman, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh etc, and playing songs on the guitar. Then I discovered Mixing and Dance music, and my guitar got relegated to the back of the cuboard. I got bored of mixing Drum and bass after a few years, and started MCing instead. Then finally I came full circle and picked up my guitar again, only this time I had pages of MC lyrics which slowly merged with my previous singing style to become what I do today. People I'm into right now are: Ani Difranco, Patrice, Gentleman, Iron & Wine, Damien Rice, Willy Mason, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, John Renbourn, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Black Uhuru, Dreadzone, The Cat Empire, Daby Balde, Eric Bibb, Gorillaz, plus hundreds more....
Sounds Like
Think Ben Harper meets Mos Def... at a Drum n Bass night... hosted by Delasoul. Confused? Me too. Everytime someone asks me what kind of music I play I end up saying something like "acoustic jazzy bluesy hip-hop reggae with a drum n bass flavour". Have a listen to a few of my tracks and let me know if you can come up with a better description!

hi all I've put these three "experimental" recordings online in the run-up to the Kartong music festival this month. (The Undercover Hippy and Joe Driscoll are on the line-up alongside an array of West African musicians at the end of March.)
There was no preparation - this is just how it unfolded... enjoy. -Peter V. //// Description: Titi and Joli from Guinea-Conakry are part of a band based at an instrument shop and cafe on the Halahin river near Kartong, the Gambia. Here are their first night's experiments with Billy the Undercover Hippy, the RC20 loop station, and Vicki. Recorded live out in the woods at Verney Kunda, Kartong, February 2009.
