If you have a specific store, distro OR you run a distro and would like to carry some of my releases, they can order records at wholesale prices from me, just send me an email at undergroundcommunique@gmail.com and we can work something out.
Also: please try to support the mom and pop/indie record stores as much as possible before you give you money to a corporate store!
In Remembrance • Lance Hahn • 1967-2007
It was an honor beyond all others that I was lucky enough to get to release one, let alone two J Church 7" records. Thankfully because Lance was such a prolific songwriter, there is a wealth of his music out there waiting to be discovered. Do yourself a favor and make a worthwhile journey down that road. Thanks for everything Lance, we all really miss you.
In Remembrance • Mat Arluck • 1970-2009
Mat was one of those people that everyone universally and genuinely loved. He was the kind of guy that inspired you to be a better, more caring person in general. Way back in 2000 Mat was one of the first people (actually the first person from a band come to think of it) that I told about the Pegboy Tribute record I wanted to put out and he was instantly, explosively supportive and excited about the idea and demanding that his band (Deminer) MUST be the one to do 'Walk on By'...which they recorded and I eventually put out...like 5+ years later...ha! That damned guitar solo he agonized about for it seemed like forever in their version still gives me chills when I listen to it.
...from the countless Deminer & Sweet Cobra shows, the few Annual Justin+Remis's Birthday Radio Show Party sessions back in the WLUW days, I'd say the Cooler By the Lake shows too, but he would always mysteriously disappear when they played...could never quite figure out where he'd go... and all the hang out time in general and in-between, Mat was just a great friend period. He was definitely the kind of guy where I feel robbed of more memories, more laughs, more times of sitting around with him telling me about crazy old shows he saw, tours he was on, more EVERYTHING.
I definitely count myself honored to have gotten to put out some of his music and to gotten to be friends with such and amazing, goofy, talented guy for ten years. 'Love you, mang'. I'll catch you later, maybe.
$1 from the sale of each Get Rad EP will be donated to the Grind For Life Charity in Mat's name.Discography:
I have made a google doc that I will keep updated as much as possible with all the pressing info that I can remember for older releases and keep it as up to date as possible for all future releases: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=t0hv73hMKBN8K1eK1MIGR5g&single=true&gid=0&output=html Voice in the Wire"Signals in Transmission" LP
Hailing from Pittsburgh, PA: Voice in the Wire were born out of the band Teddy Duchamp's Army. I tell you this, because this is where it began for me, and ultimately doing this record. My shitty band played with TDA at the Fireside many moons ago and they stayed with me and, intermittently, I stayed in contact with Mike Rock for a few years. When VITW emerged and Mike told me the band sorta morphed into this with a few new members, I signed up and bought the CD when it came out on Eyeball Records in 2005 and saw the band play the Metro with 7 Seconds. Like all things, the band sorta fizzled out and broke up. I was bummed, I loved the record, they never had a chance to kinda take off and catch on...c'est la vie. Fast forward to the Fest 8 in 2009, I run into Mike Rock...he tells me the band is thinking about doing a reunion...the conversation continues via the internetz and I mention that it'd be cool to put the record out on vinyl to celebrate a reunion show...so we do it, Alex at Eyeball is cool with it, we work out a deal and everyone is happy. The record holds up quite well, I think it parallels what bands like None More Black and After the Fall have been doing for the past few years and so we made it happen. The record is out, but band played a few amazing reunion shows in Pittsburgh, and might just have some more shows later on in 2010. Stay tuned, and check out the record!
Get Rad"What the Fuck Happened to Common Sense?!" one sided LP
In my opinion, the best release yet from these Milwaukee/Minneapolis dudes. This one is a 9 song RAGER from start to finish. A one sided LP of about 16 minutes more of their chaotic-as-hell, modernized Minor Threat-like hardcore. Originally planned to do a split 7" for them and Sweet Cobra, which will eventually happen, but this EP is a combination of that split's and a unreleased full 7" worth of songs recorded at the same time, so we combined them all into one neat package. Order this now from the Underground Communique Store!!the Methadones"Exit 17 / I believe" 7"
Brand new 2 song 7"(only the bands second 7" ever) from the Methadones from Chicago. This single includes a new song called "Exit 17" and a re-recorded and superior full band version of the song "I believe" that originally appeared as an acoustic version on their last full length "This Won't Hurt" on Red Scare.
Order this now from the Underground Communique Store!!the Methadones / the Copyrightssplit LP
12 songs / 6 songs each from two of the best pop punk bands from Illinois today! Methadones bring more of their patented power-pop infused pop-punk that you love, these songs have a slight retro-y classic power pop feel to them too, pretty neat! ...and the Copyrights bring 5 new anthems of hating jobs and struggling down the road less traveled and a cover of a one-hit wonder song that you'll recognize but won't know the name of the band that wrote it and it'll drive you nuts...just read the insert ;)
Co released with the mighty It's Alive Records Order this now from the Underground Communique Store!!Explode and Make Up-6 songs (one sided) 12" EP
Debut official release for this Chicago hardcore band, over 2 years in the works. The band fell apart for a while then have recently re-grouped and are rearing to go...so we're teaming up to get this out. The band features current members of Four Star Alarm, the Bomb, the Methadones / ex the Story So Far, Tomorrow's Gone & 88 Fingers Louie. Order this now from the Underground Communique Store!!Shot Baker / Serf Combat-Chicago vs. London split 7"
the title says it all, a Chicago band vs. a London, England band. both bands bring a new original and a cover song from a favorite band from the opposite bands city, Serf Combat bring a very unique and awesome take on a Bollweevils songs, and Shot Baker's cover is still up in the air... This record is going to be a co-release with Home of the Brave Records from London and in the spring Shot Baker and Serf Combat are going to do a UK tour together in support of it!
Order this now from the Underground Communique Store!!the Hallow / Love & Squalor"TBA" split CD (LP version coming soon!)
split LP / CD for these two Chicago Area punk rock bands that deserve a little more attention. They've both been kicking around in one form or another for a while now, and are both damn-hardworking bands. the Hallow are kind of reminiscent of Black Sails-era AFI & Love and Squalor kind of remind me of bands like Smoke or Fire or Small Brown Bike. These songs are the best material both of the band have released so far!!
Order this now from the Underground Communique Store!!Ambition Mission"Discography/You Name It, We Hate It" CD or LP?
Not sure what we're gonna do with this...ideally all the songs in one package on 2 LPs, but maybe spread over 2 volumes separately...we'll see...kinda when I have the time/money to do it. One of the truly great punk rock bands from Chicago. They played a style akin to East Bay bands like Hickey, Crimpshrine or the Avengers but somehow made it all their own too. This is a REPRESSING of the very first Government Music release (my old record label). New art and lyrics!!! (pre This is My Fist, Fourth Rotor, Canadian Rifle & Chronic Seizure, 97 Shiki, among many other great bands the members have spent time in)!! THE CD VERSION WILL BE EXACTLY THE SAME AUDIO CD AS THE GOV'T MUSIC VERSION, NO BONUS TRACKS BECAUSE IT HAD EVERYTHING THEY EVER RECORDED!the MethadonesNot Economically Viable LP. the Third Methadones album, a unique and amazing record...partially a concept record based on the movie Falling Down. They broke free a bit from the usual Ramones-core sound on this one and incorporated more of their power-pop influences that would be put on full display with the following record(their 21st Century Power Pop Riot cover song compilation, on Red Scare). For a lot of people this is their favorite Methadones album, because it's so different...but hindsight being 20/20 EVERY record they do is unique! The band is going to finish recording at least one song for a bonus track that they started to record during these sessions...which I think is pretty cool! the complete recording overhaul / re-mastering by Matt Allison at Atlas Studio in Chicago(recorded every band you like) should be ready soon!
the Bhopal Stiffs-1985-1989 LP+CD
Yes! One of the great Chicago punk rock bands from the 80's finally sees some re-issue magic on vinyl! This great band lasted only a few years but made some really amazing music in that time. Two members of this band, singer/guitarist Larry Damore and bassist Steve Saylors formed Pegboy not long after their break up. So if you're a fan of Pegboy, the Effigies or Naked Raygun...you'll definitely like this!!!! This will be all studio songs from the discography on vinyl, but it will come with a copy of the CD, that has all the LP tracks plus all the bonus live songs(some of which are unreleased/never properly recorded songs. This one is going to take a while because we're going to update the artwork from the Harmless Records version and try to include as many old flyers, set lists, etc. as possible...make it as fun and informative as possible.
ChannelsWaiting For the Next End of the World / Open EP 2xLP
Details are still being worked out on this but the plan is this will be both the full length and first EP from this Baltimore / Washington DC area band. The EP was released by Desoto and the full length Dischord, neither on vinyl...until now. Classic DC style post punk played by "some very well respected hacks of the music industry"!
Check 'em out at: the Channels Myspace page!the Bhopal Stiffs "1985-1989" LP+CD
vinyl version of all the studio tracks on the discography that Harmless put out years ago...but with updated artwork and the CD with all the bonus live stuff that was kinda dodgy quality but included for posterity sake.
Explode and Make Up / Hellmouth split 7"
Detroit's positively fucking evil sounding black metal/hardcore band Hellmouth...(ex Suicide Machines singer if you care). One new song that rivals anything form their debut LP on Ferret and a cover of the Agent Orange classic "Bloodstains"!!! EAMU's sophomore release... more old school melodic hardcore, just as solid as the previous EP, they recorded a live staple of their set since the beginning: Husker Du's song "Crystal" and a new song called Reel Around the Rumor Mill!!
