UNDERTOW started gigging in early 2001, amalgamated from several experienced unsigned rock acts. Critics describe the band as sounding like an explosive and melodic blend of 36 Crazyfists, Blindside and Thursday, indicating the trademark sound UNDERTOW offers: guitars that are both pounding and intricate, combined with Young's emotionally-charged harmonies barbed with screams.
UNDERTOW are always looking to reach new audiences, having played a string of gigs in London including the Camden Barfly and Leicester Square's Sound. As noted by one reviewer, UNDERTOW have a sickening amount of stage energy, whilst a BBC journalist simply describes the band's live performances as brutal.
In mid 2003 UNDERTOW were at the centre of a six-week furore in the national music press, which included news features and interviews. This exposure has placed the name of UNDERTOW into the minds of thousands of music fans across the country. Last year the band overcame all odds to play in front of a 1,000-strong audience at the southern England final of the international battle-of-the-bands run by Emergenza (Columbia Germany's official talent scout).
Undertow are currently back from a one year hiatus with a new EP and shows planned for the end of the year
