The Unfortunate Heads are forever in transition. If a rolling stone gathers no moss, the Unfortunate Heads are shape-shifters. The band's brooding, melancholic debut, 'Maritime' was recorded with the original trio of singer, songwriter and guitarist Lance Sollock, upright bassist Thomas Bones, and drummer Trevor Doak Morgan, and sounds like it sailed in on a three-masted ship from another time.
Its latest LP, 'Come Be Light' was born out of late night walks through Austin cemeteries and centers around themes of apparitions and the shadows and light where they hide. A marked departure from the womb-like haze of its debut, Come Be Light is a full Technicolor journey through genres and structures that reveals a new layer of brilliance with each spin.
Among the myriad guests that appeared on Come Be Light was guitarist Justin Telepak, who left a mountain of leads and scribbles of effects in his wake. He was thereafter added to the band’s official lineup, and along with the augmentation of keyboardist Jeremy Erwin, add a swirl of psychedelia and classic rock bravado to its live incarnation. In the summer of 2007, David Frank took over drumming duties and brought the brew to a roaring boil. Have a taste.
hey guys! it's nicholas (i was running sound for you last Sat.@ the Blackstar Co-op Beer Social). i've been listening to the cd you gave me and, i shit you not, i've prolly listened to it 4 or 5 times since then. it's so fuckin good! it usually takes me a few times to hear something before i can make an honest opinion of it. i remember you telling me to take it with a grain of sand and that you have a new one coming out, but i think you're selling yourselves short. i really dig your sound, especially 92nd Floor, Nervous, Sorry, and Transatlantic. i look forward to hearing the new album as well. if any opportunities arise that i can be of help, i'd be more than happy to. i think you guys are onto some amazing shit and i totally back you up on that.
Lance, sorry i missed the show at flipnotics. we had a very long day and were already in bed by 10. I did get the chance to listen to your music here on myspace and i loved it. hope to see you soon... maybe when you guys play in Dallas to "expand the fanbase".
