Catalyst began in the Autumn of '99 when former Capharnaum members Tony Espinoza and Kevin Schremmer contacted Ryan Adams (whom Schremmer replaced in Capharnaum two years prior) with the intention of starting a grind band by the name of "Theo Huxtable". The three convened in Tony's basement under the inspirational auspices of several 40 ouncers and a well-worn Superfly VHS to write for the "Theology" debut. That evening, the three wrote the entirety of what was to become Catalyst's first song, "Awakening".
Hooking up with drummer Steve LaMonica and bassist Adam Schmidt, the band recorded the majority of its first demo in a friend's dorm room using a bootleg copy of Pro Tools. Shortly thereafter, the band played its first show - a benefit for Chuck Schuldiner featuring All That Remains.
Years passed, songs were written and shows were played and the band was well received by audiences throughout the New England area as the band opened for scene luminaries as diverse as such as Blood Has Been Shed, All That Remains, Exhumed, Cephalic Carnage, Phobia, Enslaved, Today Is The Day, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Impaled, Obituary, Meshuggah and Opeth. Yet the band lacked one key element - a decent recording.
After an string of East Coast dates with Radiation 4 and the Esoteric fell through in the summer of 2004, the members decided to take advantage of the time they'd gotten off of work and headed south to friend and former bandmate Jason Suecof's Audiohammer Studios. Recorded and mixed by Suecof (Trivium, God Forbid, Crotchduster, Capharnaum) and mastered by Jim Morris at his own legendary Morrisound Studios, Catalyst finally now had a more-than-adequate representation of their devastating sound. Death metal. Uncompromised.

Oh shit its an update.
Catalyst
Status: Split-up
After all the lazing around, its true.
Shit just didn't work out this time.
Really sucks...but no time to bitch and moan.
No time for long stories or explanations.
In the meantime however;
Ryan has Ipssismus, some seriously infernal shit.
Buy all their merch and go to all of their shows.
As for the remainder of us? Anything Catalyst like?
Status:TBA.
So stay tuned.
Thanks to everyone who came out to any show from
the cafeterias to Toads Place and all places inbetween.
To anyone who bought our shit.
All the bands we've played with of course.
Especially to any bands that lent Ryan their gear
minutes before we hit stage.
Chip for booking all that out of state love, and the comp.
Y'know what this isn't going to become liner notes.
Simply put: THANKS EVERYONE, IT WAS FUCKING FUN.
Later,
Catalyst
P.S. I think the real shame was never getting to
open for Joey Belladonna that one time.
