On Earth Day April 22nd, 2007, the University of New Hampshire will host an all-day outdoor music festival from 11am to sunset. This FREE event will be held in front of Demerit Hall. Sponsored by the Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC) and funded by the UNH Student Activity Fee, the premise for the event is to celebrate the alternative rather than dwelling on the crisis that is indeed our current energy demands.
Solar Fest will be powered by solar energy courtesy of Sunweaver Solar Company. There will be a number of organizations present as well. These orgs include the Organic Garden Club, Students without borders, NHPIRG, Peace and Justice League, UNH Compost Program, Carbon Challenge, NH Carbon Coalition, New England Coalition for Sustainable Population, Rock the Earth, and Green Peace. There will also be kid's corner. A converted veggie oil Mercedes-Benz will be on display.
There will also be a climbing wall at Solar Fest. Climb for the Cure (check under Solar Fest Friend's) will be supervising anyone who would like to check this out.
Solar Fest will also host vending from Susty's Organic Cafe, Ganesh Imports, All-Star Hula Hoops, Juliet's Nicaragua Boutique, and Bananpus T-shirt Co.
The live music will be an eclectic blend of everything from rock to bluegrass. The line-up will consist of UNH’s own piano rock group AmPm, jazz/funk band Lespecial, The Wood Brothers, Apollo Sunshine, Hot Buttered Rum String Band and high performance rockers, RAQ. Be sure to check out the bands under SolarFest's Friends.
