Begun in the Spring of 2005, Unidos Da Filadelfia is the city of
Philadelphia's premier Escola De Samba, in the tradition of samba
schools found in Rio De Janeiro and the blocos afros of Salvador Da Bahia.
Founder Mike Stevens, a talented percussionist who has been performing in various groups around Philadephia for several years, started the
ensemble to further education about Brazil and it's rich culture.
Unidos has many wonderful members, some of whom have other
groups and/or projects going that both expand on and reflect the
rich multicultural heritage of Philadelphia by offering a wide array of WorldBeat music.
PhillyBloco is modeled after the blocos of Rio de Janeiro, with their large percussion sections and harmonic/vocal accompaniment. Our group is comprised of 14 drummers (all members of Unidos da Filadelfia), an electric guitarist, a bass guitarist, and a vocalist. The group performs a diverse repertoire made popular by Brazilian bands such as Olodum, Timbalada, and Monobloco. The one constant in all of our music is a heavy percussive element (14 drummers!) that we use to explore the tremendous range of Brazilian rhythms, applying our own unique creativity and energy to each arrangement. The music is extremely high energy, full of passion and feeling. We want to make people dance, feel good, and give them something to celebrate every time they see/hear us perform!

Tampa Taiko is a professional drumming duo that has performed their unique style for a vast array of audiences, performing at festivals, concert halls, schools, workshops, summer camps, corporate and VIP events. Using a collection of taiko drums made by themselves from discarded wine barrels, Tampa Taiko has developed a dynamic fusion of old and new styles of drumming, bringing a contemporary vibrance to an ancient martial artform.
