The first few months since the official birth of Union Jackals (live) have been exciting and eventful to say the least.
Here's what they said!
UJs' get bigged up on ex NME boys brand new website mynewfavouriteband.com
With the Eighties electro revival doing its best to be the new rock and roll, it’s nice to know some people are well ahead of the curve when it comes to the next revival. Stepping admirably up to the plate are London’s very fine Union Jackals with their bid to make the psych rock, post punk, shoegaze, electronic meanderings, prog stylings, classic guitar pop revival their very own............
Loving this lot, reminds me of early Blur in a good way. Really looking forward to hearing more from these boys. - Gary Crowley, BBC6 Music
Like it....like it a lot. A cool, colourful psychadelic indie popper that is right up my street. It's good to hear a wall of fuzzy guitars kicking against all of this wishy washy electro pop. - Steve Webb, Indiscretion-Sanctuary (Barfly)
Live review
Simply put the Jackals are a band it would be difficult to ignore-instantly memorable catchy tunes grab you at the first few chords with mesmerising keyboards and oh so contagious choruses (it was not long before I found myself singing along)......

UJs' frontman writes a piece on Secret Affair.
In the eighties my sister and I used to have the coolest baby sitter in the village, he would turn up with a pack of chocolate digestives and a bag of tunes (and he was a Mod). He would then turn the TV off and play his record collection to us while we all dunked digestives into our numerous cups of tea.........

"The handful of gigs we've done so far have been deemed very successful, raucous and great fun. A lot has been learnt in a short space of time. 'Depart 2?' instantly became a live favourite and always finished the set off with a bang. A video using live footage from the gigs has been cut to Analogue Star and can be viewed on youtube. Go check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcv0M1_GeW4
'Analogue Star' and 'Out of Control' (both recorded with the lovely talented George Shilling, Teenage Fanclub/Primal Scream) got a digital release across all the major digi download sites. 'Out of Control' has been receiving a number of plays on BBC6 and various BBC regional radio. As well as becoming popular on student radio and enjoying dancefloor action on the indie/alternative club scene.
Setanta sports were quick off the mark and used these tracks in an FA Cup programme, this aired several times. A good number of Premiership football sides played 'Out of Control' during the build up to kick off at the end of the season. (Also played during half time at Stamford Bridge for the Champions league semi final against Barcelona)
In may the UJs' headed off to Oxford to record 'Depart 2?' with Mark Gardener, former frontman of the legendary RIDE. (One of Carl and Pauls' favourite bands). 'Depart 2?' is now up on Myspace for your listening!!
The UJs' are now working full steam ahead on new songs and recordings to complete their album ready for Autumn release. Another of the live favourites "Open Skies" is in amongst it and coming along very nicely indeed. We're experimenting with weird and wonderful sounds and ideas, honing and developing the UJs' sound.
A couple of the early stand out demos have working titles of 'Racing a Horse' and 'We are the Human Race'. Look out for demos appearing now and then for a short time on Myspace.
To top it all off, there's a bonkers video idea floating around the head of Barnesy. I can't say too much on this but it could involve some Monty Pythonesque kind of Druid/Pagan shiz...............
Anyways, over and out for now. I've got a fizzy underwater guitar sound to find and record.....
Keep tuning in and see yers soon.
