BIO SECTION Unique DJ has been spinning the wheels of steel since the age of 14. After 3 years crafting his skills in the solitude of his bedroom, he played his first live club set in 1998. 10 years later, Unique has played alongside most of the big name DJs in South Africa and has found a broad fan base – playing everywhere from the elitist clubs of Jo’burg’s northern suburbs to massive parties in the townships of the North West Province. Not limiting himself to one style of music, Unique plays everything from deep house to electro funk & trance. “It all depends on the mood of the crowd.” He says. The ability to switch between genres is one of the reasons why Unique has entertained up to 6000 people at a time. It was in 2005, at the legendary ESP in Jo’burg, that Unique cemented his reputation, mixing dirty Electro Funk on the Funky Floor on Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Like many of the world’s most successful DJs, Unique is now producing his own tracks. With styles ranging from House to Trance, his first two electro-house tracks, “Bassmental” and “Change Over”, were released in late 2007 on London based digital label, Chameleon Muzik. The tracks featured on Derek "The Bandit" Richardson's Sound Republic Podcast. In early 2008, Unique DJ’s third electro-house track, "Phat Cat", was picked-up by South Africa's newest independent record label, More Music. Most recently, he was commissioned to do remixes for various labels (house and trance), with releases scheduled for late-2008.
