With a mixture of great originals and savvy cover tunes, United Cities of America (UCA) have shown themselves to be equally at home playing high-profile festivals, corporate gigs, the original club circuit, and downhome blues & rock clubs. The UCA SUMMER TOUR 2007 took UCA all over the state of Washington, including stops in Pullman for the NATIONAL LENTIL FESTIVAL, Lake Chelan for the RHYTHMS AT THE LAKE 2007 FESTIVAL, as well as shows along the Skagit River and at scenic Remlinger Farms in Carnation.
UCA has also become a popular band in the Everett, WA. area, playing regularly at Monahan's in downtown Everett ( 4 weekends since May). The band also showcased during 2007 in Seattle at the Nectar Lounge, The Merchant's Cafe (where they recorded live tracks with C2M2 Music), The U-District Street Fair, and several times at the Tulalip Casino with popular trombonist, Randy Oxford.
2008 is rocking hard also, with great gigs at rooms like the Triple Door, and local clubs like the Eastlake Zoo Tavern in Seattle and Sharkeys Pub in Mountlake Terrace. Look for new UCA live & studio tracks soon, as well as a new DJ Spire dance mix of ONE TOUCH, all brought to you by your friends at No Excuse Records.
THE UCA STORY:
For those of you who don't know, UCA is a 5 piece Seattle-area based band that brings the honesty and message of Bob Marley, mixes it with the smoothness of Santana, plus the passion of Latino & R&B Diva vocals, timeless songwriting, an ear for dance-club stylings, outstanding live showmanship from high-spirited veterans of the Seattle music scene, and spreads it over a thick, Afro-Cuban funk/rock beat.
UCA is the brainchild of Bronx-born-turned Seattle musician/singer-songwriter/No Excuse Records President, Keith Anderson. Known for his energetic live shows, stellar jazz/reggae/pop songs on previous albums "Fire With Fire" (1994), "Somewhere in Your Heart" (2000), and the "I Can Make Believe" remix album (2003), the seeds for UCA started growing out of Keith's UK solo music tour and 6 month stay in England.
After working with top-notch British Producer Stuart Wakeman (Jamiroquai, Phil Collins) to produce 5 tracks for the Rise album and bringing in sensational young UK Diva Emma Stakes to sing on "I Can Make Believe", "The Living Years", and "Rhythm is Gonna Get You", Anderson returned to Seattle in 2004 to finish Rise, recruiting Producer/Engineer Jake Perrine (DJ Spire), Singer-songwriter Wynne C. Blue, and Electronic Artist DJ Norml to finish the album, and to put together the live band.
THE BAND:
Keith Anderson on vocals, rhythm guitar and keyboards, has established himself as a classic songwriter, recording artist and performer over the years, releasing several singles in the 80's (Sweet Tooth, Hearts Falling Apart), several cassette releases in the early 90's (One Day at A Time, Amnesty), as well as CD's since 1994 (Fire With Fire, Somewhere in Your Heart). His CD "I Can Make Believe", featuring remix/producers from the US and England, was released in the UK in 2003, along with a solo tour in the UK.
Vocalist Lin Broussard brings her high-energy style and engaging personality to the stage with UCA. Here in Seattle by way of Honolulu, Lin established herself as a major female entertainer in Hawaii, performing and touring with SALSA HAWAII, a 7 piece salsa band led by Rolando Sanchez.
Bassist Dan Broussard holds down the bottom end for UCA. Originally from San Francisco by way of New Jersey, Dan was the bassist in SALSA HAWAII, and later formed DIAMOND CUT with Lin, performing in Waikiki before moving to the Puget Sound area.
Lead guitarist/vocalist James Howard has been playing guitar in the Northwest scene since the time gasoline was 45 cents a gallon and a goldtop Les Paul cost less than $600. His guitar influences are an eclectic group including Santana, Buddy Guy, Clapton and Jimi Hendrix.
Drummer Vernon Lawton hails from California and has honed his craft playing with a diverse collection of musicians. Vern is equally at home rocking out at your local pub or improvising on middle-eastern themes with jazz musicians.
With the summer of 2008 well underway, everyone involved with UCA and No Excuse Records has a lot to be thankful for: downloads from Rise selling in Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan and the US, songs we wrote being covered by other artists, a song featured in a Japanese movie, many live shows coming up in 2008, various recording projects, and lots of good vibrations and love building in the universe. We wish everyone peace and happiness and we promise to rock the dance floors even harder the rest of 2008!!
