  • Bio

UNITY:DIVISION is a LIVELY sexy fun silicone-free Rock-Punk-Folk-Ska duo from south-east London. UNITY DIVISION write their own material blending raw, energetic and silicone-free songs with sensuous tinges of burlesque! Punk rhythms, chainsaw guitars and soaring heartfelt harmonies are delivered with a passion: conscientious living, good vibes, DIY ethics and positive self-awareness all bundled up within a sense of fun and festival spirit. We've recently dipped our dinky little toes into playing occasional cover versions in our own style. SERENA leads the band with an exciting vocal tone, brickwall guitar and a visual feast of onstage mid-song costume changes and has modelled for VIVIENNE WESTWOOD. DRU ZED has a pure, sweet voice melding his haunting vocals with angsty rhythm guitar and self-sampled noise. Dru sang backing vocals on BILLY BRAGG's "Don't Try This At Home" alongside MICHAEL STIPE. You are invited to our musical world; we're making a comeback after a couple of injuries and mysterious illnesses; what this will become and why you are drawn to being here may be a fluke. But the mists will clear at some point- anticipatory patience and time will tell: we will post previously unseen exclusive updates and photos from our personal albums and punk-splashed archives and interactions of Jeremy Kyle proportions. or moving images of ourselves in experimental mindsets. or perhaps tawdry exposés clumsily illustrated, along with potentially exciting updates. PunkRock veterans the New York Dolls posted a message on our MySpace page to say that "UNITY: DIVISION ROCK!!", which was nice, and Del Palmer (producer, Kate Bush) likes our stuff too- "Love the music... Be happy and stay creative...", he said. Of course, we enjoy conjuring up fantastical imaginings and being busy, we're mainly occupied by playing music. Please enjoy the musical vol au vents we procure for you, we'll stuff our pockets during visits to other nether-worlds on your behalf. Perhaps some strange morsels- tempting informational starters, or the rather well-worn toffees of gossip that we found in the depths of our instrument cases. Our mission is not to divide- we are here to unite and devise a plan to help bring people together and while we're at it, let's encourage unity through music; for music has the power to change people's lives. Soundwaves! Powerful stuff and as Serena puts it "Without music, I'd lose my sanity".. U&D have built up a following of loyal fans while gigging hard across London, and performing at many festivals over the summer seasons, including GLASTONBURY 2009 (six gigs there in 2008!), SECRET GARDEN PARTY, STOKEFEST, BIG GREEN GATHERING, OUT OF The ORDINARY, SMALL WORLD, BONKERSFEST, HOPE Weekender and CARSHALTON ENVIRONMENTAL FAIR, as well live interviews and performances on-air including BBC RADIO1. • Influences

the media, drugs, sex, alcohol, love, mischief, pixieness, flowers growing from cracks in pavements, effluences. We're inspired by truth, honesty and stories of victory through pain. and loud music. but only if it's not on crappy speakers. Influences? So many musical performers too start listing, suffice to say that we love all kinds of stuff and don't rely too heavily on trying to sound like our fave musicians, otherwise we'd end up sounding like something we're not.
