About Unity Mississippi

Unity Mississippi is a social and business organization/network for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transsexuals in Mississippi. Unity Mississippi:

is the organizer of OUToberfest -- an annual LGBT arts festival held in Jackson, Mississippi during October.
promotes equality through entertainment, education and enlightenment rather than divisive politics.
hosts regular socials from outdoor picnics to dining events to film screenings.
is a non-profit organization and 100% volunteer-based.
relies on financial donations and volunteers to promote change in our community as well as the community at large.

Please repost this Reclassifying homosexuality fails to quell military's critics The Associated Press ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Washington -- Pentagon guidelines that classified homosexuality as a mental disorder now put it among a list of conditions or "circumstances" that range from bedwetting to fear of flying. The new rules are related to the military's retirement practices. The change does not affect the "don't ask, don't tell" policy that prohibits officials from inquiring about the sex lives of service members and requires discharges of those who openly acknowledge being gay. The revision came in response to criticism this year when it was discovered the guidelines listed homosexuality alongside mental retardation and personality disorders. Mental health professionals and others said they were not satisfied. "More than 30 years after the mental health community declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder, it is disappointing that the Pentagon still continues to mischaracterize it as a 'defect,' said Rep. Marty Meehan, D-Mass., a member of the House Armed Services Committee.
