Way back in 1993, Levi and Mitch- two friends who enjoyed playing guitar and loved the rock/metal genre, decided to get together and see what developed. For the first few months, Mitch and Levi were content to learn and play covers of their heroes, such as judas priest, megadeth, metallica, savatage, sammy hagar, twisted sister, anthrax, and many others.
One day Mitch played an original song he'd written recently, and after hearing what he'd come up with, Levi persuaded Mitch that it was time to write their own songs. After a few months, several more songs were written and the band played its first show. On valentine's day, 2/14/1994, the band, then called Metal Kage, played at a private club run by a local motorcycle club. After struggling with a suitable name for the band, Metal Kage became Mtlkg, then Kage. However, in 1998 another band who claimed prior ownership of the Kage name insisted we stop using Kage, so the name was changed to Unkaged to avoid conflict.
The original permanent lineup of Mitch, Levi, Terry, and Mike recorded a 5-song
EP under the Kage name. It was released on cassette tape, and later transferred to CD. They also recorded a live show with 13 songs.
