About me:

UnlikelyStories dot org was founded by Jonathan Penton in July of 1998. At the time, it was the first Web-magazine focusing on transgressive literature to update on a regular basis. It updated monthly, with only slight changes to the format and more frequent sabbaticals, until early in 2004.

In June 2004 Penton and a group of friends took the domain name and formed Unlikely 2.0, a Web-magazine including essays on cultural and artistic issues, reviews, interviews, poetry, fiction, visual art, music, and short films. Unlikely 2.0 puts out two issues in most months: a text-based issue at the beginning of the month, and a multimedia issue mid-month. We have released a few chapbooks under the Unlikely name since 2004, according to time, budget, and mood. Unlikely 2.0 is more eclectic than the original Unlikely Stories, but still exists to challenge Western standards of normalcy and health. Submissions to Unlikely 2.0 are welcome.

In 2009, the staff of UnlikelyStories dot org will begin more aggressive chapbook production under the Unlikely Books imprint. In 2010, we will produce our first full-length print anthology, including text, full-color art, and a CD and DVD. We'll also be publishing manuscripts by individual authors. We are currently accepting manuscripts of poetry for our First Annual WRITE REAL GOOD Poetry Chapbook Contest.

    Hi there!
My debut novel, The Cuckoo Parchment and the Dyke, has just launched. If you get a chance I'd be grateful if you'd go to my profile to find out more. The story's about Dada, art and artists, and the attempt to instigate revolution by means of art.
    Thanks and take care,
    Michael

An emcee, two poets and a visual artist discuss hip hop's rites of passage. Three prominent Black men, who were the first of their kind, helped develop African-American theatre in the U.S. A young Nigerian artist takes the national art scene by force.
