Introducing the third rock’s newest and most rare piano ensemble at the beginning of a most amazing musical odyssey: The UNPQ! During the last ten days in August of 2005, Duo Pianists and Composers Kirk Whipple & Marilyn Morales traveled to St. Martin de Vesubie, France. On behalf of their non-profit musical organization, The Unconservatory, their primary goal was to enhance cultural ties between South Florida and France and to advance their international collaboration with artists and educators in France. An inspired alliance was formed between pianists Whipple & Morales, Frédéric Chauvel and Mark Solé-Lerís. Whipple, who was in the process of creating an original work for two pianos / eight hands, suggested that an international piano ensemble could be formed. Thus, “The United Nations Piano Quartet" (a.k.a. "The UNPQ") was born! On Wednesday, December 13, 2006, Whipple & Morales departed Miami for a 24-day tour of the south of France. The tour has been hailed as a great artistic and cultural success! The duo served as jurors on the 1st International Competition for One Piano / Four Hands in Valberg, gave publicly acclaimed concerts and master classes. During this time the UNPQ was able to rehearse much of Whipple's new work. Chauvel, Solé-Lerís and guest artist Caterine Naget arrived in Miami on Monday, February 12, 2007 to finish rehearsing Whipple’s new concerto, “Fives” and the other selections on the UNPQ's debut program. On Friday, February 16, 2007 Gala For Two Pianos launched the global career of The UNPQ! In August 2007 at Cranberry Coast Concerts (near Cape Cod, Massachusetts) and in concerts in France The UNPQ again performed their debut repertoire. The UNPQ is releasing their première recording in 2008 in concert venues in Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts and France. Enjoy the excerpts on this site, and please order your copy today!
