In the old adage about oxymorons, one that I always felt should have been included is "Music Business". The Music Business as it stands today is always about "Business" and almost never about "Music". It creates endless streams of mass-appealing "product" and couches the music in a nice, attractive little image. The product is tied in to every piece of merchandise marketers can think of in an effort to squeeze every last penny they can out of the flavor of the week. Strings of 'songwriters' churn out 'songs' so 'artists' can 'perform' them, and everyone along the way acts like they're the ones that the process depends on.
In reality, it depends on none of them.
The underground is the TRUE place to find real MUSIC - artistic creations that people have poured their passion into. With such a focus on music, it is imperative that members of the underground support each other, adding the strength of many together to a unified legion.
Through Unsung Heroes Records, I have tried to put all of my effort into promoting the bands that I believe in - bands that speak to me and I feel have something to say that others want to hear. I try to handle that second word in the oxymoron 'Music Business' so that the artists can concentrate on the more important word - the first one.
