Unusual Musical Instruments ---- EUKLANG (pronounced "oyklung"): This is a metallophone made from an aluminium drum (part of a twin tub washing machine, those were the days folks!). It is tuned by cutting different sections into the drum, similar to a steel drum and it sounds a bit like that as well. A tuning in a defined scale or key is difficult to achieve, but you are rewarded with some unusual, but pleasant sounding scales. The Euklang is best played with intuition and feeling, rather than with a too rational western musical mind. It sounds like an overtone string instrument and can be played in many styles. The music can sound like an Indian Raga or a Circle Dance from Brittany or a Malian Desert Blues played on a Ngoni. ---- CONCERTS + CDs: Please contact Thomas via www.drums-ireland.com
