Whether its an hour, or a two-day drive; moving away from home is an exciting time, but it can be a shock to new students (and their parents!). It is totally normal if you feel a bit overwhelmed and homesick when you first move to university - you and hundreds of other student will be making an important transition into a whole new world of independent decision making; at UOW we encourage this independence, but we also provide the vital support services necessary to make the transition a whole lot easier!

We have a website called "First Year at UOW' which is designed to help first year students settle in at UOW, to answer common questions and to act as a guide to useful services and information.

Hi Ghetfunkd,
That degree is in the Faculty of Creative Arts. So you'll be doing a Bachelor of Creative Arts majoring in Sound Composition & Music Production. It's all about composition and production of music and sound - especially digitally (they have sick computers for those classes!). there are classes like Theory of Sound & Acoustics; Computer Music Applications and Critical Listening. They also have this sweet room which can be used for recording layovers which is awesome cuz u get all the experience of using some of the state of the art software and equipment!

For more info go to http://www.uow.edu.au/crearts/smd and click on Sound Composition & Music Production or you can call the Faculty on 4221 3996 to ask any questions. Hope that helps - get back to us with any more questions!

Cell
Btw are u a muso urself? or just interested in the recording side of things?

Hey mel (and everyone else!),

Just thinking about the questions for careers markets, and a common one we get is whether you need to get a high UAI to get a scholarship- definitely not the case! So don't forget to ask about the different types of scholarships on offer!
