THE OLDEST PUB IN INVERNESS....
The Market Bar has been serving up thoughts of "The Bevvy" for over 250 years. The building that stands at present was constructed in 1890 but the site has had a watering hole since 1745. It was possibly once a brothel where local prostitutes slit the throats of spunked out redcoats in revenge for the slaughter of their kin. Evidence to support this claim is insubstantial, but its a nice idea........
The first bar in Inverness to be licensed for daytime opening, (every second Thursday and Friday from 12), The first to receive a late licence and the first to feature live music every night of the week, The Market Bar could justifiably be called a pioneering establishment, but most people just call it "THE PUB".
The original Up Market was a showcase of local musical talent released in 1995 on a format known as "CASSETTE". In the time since the Tory party has been ousted, the sea levels have risen several centimeters, the price of a pint has doubled and, the digital recording revolution has arrived.
Up Market II features over 30 names who have graced the thimble sised stage and activated their instruments, leaving molicules of sound and sweat embedded in the wood panelling. This exquisite eclectic collection demonstrates why The Market Bar has been nationally recognised as a place of musical exellence. It does not account for the funny smell out side.
Live music begun in 1972 and has continued near every night since aside from a few closed days (holidays, refurbishments, and a few weeks after the Queensgate burned down) and a two week break silence after Moggy died. The bar was open but no music was played. Then the Robin started to visit, flying in the window and perching on the microphone. It was taken as an omen. The music resumed and has not ceased.
IN the 34 years of live music there have been over twelve thousand gigs played. An astonishing number to contemplate, made all thee more remarkable by the fact that a quarter of them have been played by one man. This album was conceived and instigated by Shirley Wymess and Richard "Dickey" Bills. Pointing the lens and pressing the shutter button was mostly done by Peter "Pedro" Nairne.Design. layout and misc. pics by John Slorach. Words by tsk. All tracks were willingly donated by the musicians. Everyone involved got paid exactly the same amount of fuck all for their contrabution. The money made from the sale of this albumwill be donated equally between the kids music charity and the downstairs pensioners fund because, its all about music and community.
THE CD IS NOW AVAILABLE IN THE BAR FOR £10.00 not bad for 33 track double cd...

Two year old Sofia Crockatt was suddenly struck down with Meningococcal Septicaemia in February 2007. Thankfully, after several months in hospital she managed to pull through. This little girl's strength and determination has been the inspiration for our fundraising. We chose Meningitis Research Foundation as they not only put money towards research but their mission is also to raise awareness of the symptoms of both meningitis and septicaemia. Sofia still has long road to travel, but is making amazing progress.

Tomorrow night (Tuesday) we have 4 Bands who came top in our poll of bands you wanted to see in Inverness.
The venue is DOWNTOWN
As well as 4 the bands there will be the usual happy cheesy dance tunes to hold the night together.
The sound is by Rise2Red, so it will be banging
We need over 200 people to make it a good night and pay for another top night next time.
All for only £4 with any profit (we wish) going to the next gig.
