Biography
At the end of 1999 Stefan Van Bael (aka AVB, bass) plans to form a new band. Upperhand initiates with Bram Helsen (vocals) and Ben Cavens (guitar)
The first songs are written and early 2000 Dries Dams was found to be the ideal drummer.
End 2001, short after the split of Anti - Body Davy Geerts (aka Getz, vocals) joines the ranks as the second vocalist. A few months later Jef(ke) Haverans (Guitar) joines as the sixth member. The new and stable Upperhand is born, in the meantime rehearsals are held at the now legendary Moe Metal (R.I.P.) - studios
A deathline was set for the recording sessions for a first demo. After just one weekend at Déstudio with Dirk Miers the 'Hope For Nothing' demo was released by the end of April 2002. The criticasters describe this recording as very promising and Upperhand gaines confidence.
Gigs with band as Tech-9, Born From Pain, The Business, Backfire!, Unleash The Fury, Liar, Congress, No Turning Back, Kickback and many more gave Uppehand the appetite to accelerate and grow, harder than before.
A year and a half goes by when the band decides to lock themselves up again in Asse to do a second recording.
The presentation of 'Solid body&mind' to the audience turns out to be a blast and comments were better than ever. However after an internal conflict, Bram Helsen decides to part ways with the band. The search for a suitable replacement begins.
A certain Jef Van de Vel workes himself in the band and in 2005 the metalcore-machine is ready again for another round chaos and destuction.
To insure the new line - up the MCD 'i knew/new eye' was recorded. With this latest silver blade the band is aiming to find the support for the upcoming full cd.
2008, brings a new era. In order to concentrate on his personal life, Drummer Dries Dams departs Upperhand after almost 10 years.
With Bart Vernelen (aka Beire) as the new battery the typical Upperhand sound will be lifted to a new level, and we'll continue where it has never stopped.
