Upryz (Daniel Fox) is a multi-talented Producer, Audio Engineer, and Bass Player. Whether creating Hip-Hop beats, mixing tracks in the studio or delivering the low end on stage, his eclectic, original, and always musical presence comes through.
As a bassist Upryz has shared the stage with the Foundation Movement (www.foundationmovement.com), members of the Steve Miller Band, blues harmonica legend Professor Harp, Billy Bragg, KRS-One, and many others. As an Engineer Upryz has squeezed out all the right sounds for numerous clients ranging from hardcore rock bands, to folk, pop, film soundtracks, Jazz, Funk, R&B, and a lengthy roster of Boston's best Hip-Hop. And as a producer, compositions by Upryz have been the backbone for artists like the Foundation Movement, Soulfege (www.soulfege.com), the FloorLords (www.floorlords.com), Big Brotha Sadi, Walnut (www.shelshokentertainment.com), Conundrum (www.elitetechnique.com), and Mr. Napkins (www.myspace.com/mrnapkins).
Upryz grew up in a musical family. His father Herbert is a provocative composer and multi-instrumentalist. Internationally acclaimed pianist and composer brother Donal (www.leonellismusic.com) began training Daniel on Piano at age 4. Later, via the influence of older brother Brian (funk session player), the electric bass became the musical hub of Upryz' universe. Growing up in the Fox home he heard a steady stream of Thelonius Monk and Igor Stravinsky, J. S. Bach and Herbie Hancock. Later on the grip of funk, Hip-Hop, and experimental electronic styles took hold. Music technology - sampling, sequencing, and the recording arts became additional methods of expression. Now, in addition to the aforementioned skills, Upryz teaches teens how to realize their creative dreams using music technology as the full time Technical Director of Zumix, Inc. a one of a kind afterschool program in East Boston, MA. More people, more prayers, more stupid interruptions! I do like you though! Except when you're not BEHAVING (which is more frequently than you think, by the way!) Anyway, welcome to the flock!
