(fear not, Are Friends Electrik? will keep bringing you quality electronic musik events starting in April, stay tuned for info)
*** note: if the terminology below such as "booty cramps", "ankle pudding" and "poundcake" sound foreign to you, just substitute them for the word "fun". Thank you. ***

BARRY WEAVER
2.5 Hour Set! (Dos Tres, Vice Versa, Electroluxe, Funky Tekno Tribe – San Diego, Los Angeles)
Bio
With an extensive arsenal of records, over 50,000 strong, encompassing everything from Acid House to Zeppelin, Barry Weaver’s knowledge and tastes make for a style-trashing head-on clash of ideas. A firm foundation based on years of experience and an instinct for what lies ahead allow Barry to mine past and present alike; connecting, challenging and always pushing the envelope. With an amazing set of dancefloor-ready, genre-defying tunes, this LA and West Coast veteran will leave you surprised and awestruck. Comparisons to Optimo, the Glimmers or even Rub-N-Tug might not be far from the mark - you’’re likely to hear minimal techno, house, electro, disco, acid/house classics in one of his always original sets.
Having gotten his start behind the decks in 1985, Barry Weaver was there at the birth of Los Angeles’ rave scene and quickly progressed as a champion of techno, house and breaks in the City of Angels, making a name for himself that has taken him all over the world. A penchant for record collecting and a truly eclectic taste in music have kept him from ever settling comfortably into a trademark style; his keen interest in what’s "next" keeps him constantly incorporating new ideas into his repertoire. Barry is always searching for new and different ways to express himself musically, especially now, with so many DJs focused on playing single genres. "I’ve found myself connecting the dots between the music that started it all for me with current sounds that are really moving me, fusing early house and disco with minimal techno and electro house." The result is a refreshing barrage of new and old, punk and funk, disco and electro, that you won’t believe even after seeing him mix it all on the fly. Barry’s sets are unpredictable, exciting and always changing...everything dance music once was, everything dance music should be.
Barry’s love for music got its start when he picked up a saxophone in the 4th grade. Choir and musical theater followed, helping him to gain a love of performance and a broad base of musical exposure. Diving headfirst into San Francisco’s late 70’s music world, Barry found inspiration in both the clubs and on stage. Moving up and down the west coast, he witnessed San Francisco and Los Angeles’ punk, disco and new wave scenes as well as their infamous mid-eighties underground parties. It was at this crucial time that Barry’s interest in becoming a DJ became a reality - long before the DJ became the cultural icon it is today.
The birth of the LA underground saw a number of DJs rise up and shape the face of dance culture. Along with LA rave and house icons such as Doc Martin, Marques Wyatt and DJ Dan, Barry played party after party, breaking rules before they were written. Since then Barry has played all over the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He’s shared billing with heavyweights such as Armand Van Helden, Carl Cox, Ritchie Hawtin, Jon Acquaviva, Frankie Bones, Tiga and Felix Da Housecat. Over the years he’s developed a strong connection with partygoers everywhere and he continues to impress crowds wherever he plays.
Barry currently pours his considerable experience and talent into his latest club night DOS TRES.
(myspace.com/viceversaclub) Borne from disillusionment with the current club scene, DOS TRES (and his prior weekly events, Electroluxe and Vice/Versa) seek to challenge people’s expectations of what a club should look, sound and feel like. Electroluxe started as an intimate bi-weekly get-together and quickly exploded into a weekly must-do event. The rate of growth that Electroluxe and now DOS TRES have both shown is an undeniable testimony to his success.
Longevity is rarity in the DJ world. So many come and go. Others dig themselves into a niche or refuse to venture out and approach music differently. Over the years Barry has proven himself to be a diverse and adventurous force in dance music and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.
Recently Barry has been learning his way around the production studio. Working with several producers, he has been busy opening new doors in his quest to find ways to express himself through music. His produtions and remixes can be heard in his current sets. You can check some of Barry’s new DJ mixes on his MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/barryweaver or you can listen to them here:

Terminal 11
Live Set (Thru The Wires, Tigerbeat6, Hymen, Cock Rock Disco, Pthalo – Phoenix)
Bio
Terminal 11 is leading the pack of experimental electronic artists in Phoenix. One half of Thru The Wires -- who after 60 shows (!!) have breathed new life into the Phoenix experimental electronic musik by bringing out groundbreaking artists such as Kid 606, Jason Forrest, Daedalus, Cylob, DAT Politics and X23. He’s performed across the country and all over town including the first Are Friends Electrik? afterhours events, and we are pleased to have him perform again in tonight’s special Leftfield Room at The End: ^UP.
Here’s some words about Terminal 11’s last two albums...
"It’s sometimes hard to distinguish one artist from the next in the Ant Zen/Hymen stable. Not so Terminal 11. Fractured Sunshine takes the Arizonan’s obsession with meticulous detail to a miraculous extreme, creating a sort of OCD breakcore album-it’s composed completely out of very clean sounds but still manages to convey wild-eyed mania. His weirdly flat drums constantly fluctuate against strange samples, the whole thing feeling compressed and yet far-reaching at the same time. It’s not hard to see how Terminal 11 has earned undying praise from folks like Jason Forrest, and while the album’s about as far from "groovy" as you can get, you might end up finding it loveable." -XLR8R Magazine
"Terminal 11’s sixth record slays. After releasing a bunch of jams on Cock Rock Disco and Phthalo, this guy’s established himself as an experimental, post-drum & bass icon. Imagine flurries of data making their way through a fax machine linked to hell." XLR8R.com’s top 20 albums listened to in the office
"Remember when IDM music was interesting? Yes, it’s been a long time, and computers have “given us” many cheap, lifeless albums since then. But wait! Here’s Mike Castaneda, AKA Terminal 11, fresh from Phoenix Arizona, to prove to the world that it is possible to tame your computer and force it to work for the powers of goodness.
Illegal Nervous Habits is easily the greatest album ever made! It’s an emotional rollercoaster of a record, with thrills and chills, heartbreaking sacrifice and enough guts and grit to make even your grandmother pay attention. But what does it sound like? Well Johnny, imagine a million bits of information flying through the air, and watch these bits weave and dive like a ballet on PCP. Then, as you’re just getting bored, these bits make pictures of your friends laughing and having the best fun they ever had. Yeah, that’s trippy isn’t it? Well this album is just like that, and MORE." -Cock Rock Disco, Berlin
