...Once there was a band…a band I want to tell you about, band by the name of UP! SCUMBAG. At least, that was the handle their lovin' parents gave ‘em… but they never had much use for it themselves. This UP! SCUMBAG, they called themselves the Dudes. Now, Dude, that's a name no one would self-apply where I come from. But then, there was a lot about the Dudes that didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. And a lot about where they lived, like-wise. But then again, maybe that's why I found the place so darned interestin'.
...They call Indianapolis the City of Nothing. I didn't find it to be that exactly, because there are some nice folks that live there. 'Course, I can't say I seen London, and I never been to France, and I ain't never seen no queen in her damn undies as the fella says. But I'll tell you what, after seeing Indianapolis and this here story I'm about to unfold-- well, I guess I seen somethin' ever' bit as stupefyin' as ya'd see in any a those other places, and in English too, so I can die with a smile on my face without feelin' like the good Lord gypped me.
...Now this story I'm about to unfold took place back in the early two thousands-- just about the time of our conflict with Osama and the Al-Quadas. I only mention it 'cause sometimes there's a band--I won't say a hero, 'cause what's a hero?--but sometimes there's a band. And I'm talkin' about the Dudes here-- sometimes there's a band who, well, they're the band for they're time'n place, they fit right in there--and that's the Dudes, in Indianapolis
...And even if they're a lazy band, and the Dudes were most certainly that--quite possibly the laziest in Indiana. ...which would place them high in the runnin' for laziest worldwide--but sometimes there's a band. . . sometimes there's a band. … Well, I lost my train of thought here. But--aw hell, I done introduced 'em enough. - C.B.
