About me: Upstream was born from the minds and spirits of many a change-oriented social worker at the University of Texas at Austin and has been on the air since January of 2007. We inexpertly explore issues of social justice every week, complementing interviews and talk with kvrx music essentials (none of the hits all of the time). We interview a guest from a student or community organization, talk about ways to take action, and groove to sweet tunes. Past guests include folks from the Texas Civil Rights Project, People Organized in Defense of Earth and her Resources (PODER), Better Hip Hop Bureau of Austin, Inside Books Project, AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power (ACT UP), Atticus Circle, SafePlace, Refugee Services of Texas, Political Asylum Project of Austin (PAPA), Incite!, Campaign to End the Death Penalty, and many, many more. Listen to Upstream if: it sounds cool, you don't know anything or you know a LOT about social issues, you care about social equity, you are an activist, you've got energy for community action and activism but don't know where to start. So... listen if you want to hear radio that inspires you to get off your ass and do something! Upstream is a project of the Social Justice Action Coalition, based out of the School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin.
