James Patrick Regan grew up in Hawaii with the sound of peaceful music, moved to the Bay Area where he joined a rock band, "St. Laurent". He then joined forces with Romanian National Circus that took him to parts of Brazil, Ecuador and Taiwan. he returned to Hawaii to study under guitar Keola Beamer and John Keawe. He has now turned the acoustic Slack Key guitar into a more "urban" feel, and he calls it "Urban Slack". In his spare time he farms in the Napa valley with his wife and two children. He now spends time between Napa, Nashville and the Napali coast of Kaua'i.
