Urban Waste emerged as a hardcore/punk band from Astoria, Queens in 1980. The band played their first show in 1981 at the A7 club in NYC’s Lower East Side. Urban Waste recorded their one and only 7” EP in 1982 which included 8 songs on Mobstyle/Wasteland productions. Famous for their defiance of not conforming to society’s ways, the band played whenever and wherever they could in New York City. Urban Waste also went on an east coast tour in 1984.
Urban Waste shared the stage with almost every NYHC band that came out of the 1982-1985 era which included Murphy’s Law, Agnostic Front, The Beastie Boys, The Mob, Kraut and Reagan Youth. At the height of the band’s success, Urban Waste broke up in 1985.
In 2002, Urban Waste hit the stage again with new singer Zac Stough and bass player Tony Ricci. This reunion turned out to be a short lived fun experience. Six years went by before the band reunited again in 2008.
This time with three of the original members: vocalist Kenny Ahrens, guitarist Johnny Waste and drummer John Dancy.
The band is currently booking shows, small tours and writing new material. We also plan on a new release for everyone in 2010, so keep a lookout for that.
