USED KIDS THEME
The Used Kids are a punk rock and roll band from Brooklyn, NY, formed
in late 2007 by members of the Modern Machines (Nato and Danny), the
Ergs! (Mikey), and Cheeky (Kate). It's not easy to pin down what the
Used Kids are all about, but there's just a certain kind of electric
feeling that they create when they're bringing the noise. Like when
it's midnight and you're at a dance party with your friends, maybe
some enemies, and someone's been hijacking the stereo and playing
shitty ironic indie dance music all night. Maybe you've just cracked
open a can of Schlitz, or passed around a fifth of Evan Williams, but
whatever you're doing, you're ready to really cut loose, and suddenly
the Exploding Hearts are on the sound system and you're running around
the place, knocking over chairs and preaching Gospel-style to all the
clueless hipsters how you're a Pretender at the Game of Love. And as
you rampage and thrash around the place, you feel once more what it
was like when you heard the Ramones for the first time and there was a
nuclear detonation in your brain. Or maybe the songs of the Used Kids
recall for you how it felt that time when you and your roommate were
driving straight from Seattle to Minneapolis, the tape deck broken,
and as you searched at dawn through the toxic waste on the FM dial in
the badlands of Montana, you heard the riff from Tom Petty's "Running
Down A Dream" and you punched the ceiling of your car as you both sang
along with every word. Go to salinasrecords.com for the rest of the story...
Nato's History Of The Used Kids
We formed in late 2007, after Nato and Danny moved to Brooklyn from their hometown of Milwaukee, WI, where their prior band, the Modern Machines, had basically broken up. Mikey joined to play a show with the Modern Machines at The Fest VI, and ended up stickin' around. Kate joined shortly thereafter on lead guitar. For awhile, this lineup was still called the Modern Machines (or Modern Machines Hovercraft). Our first show as the Used Kids was February 1st, 2008.
We played a bunch of shows in and around Brooklyn, and meanwhile, we recorded a 3-song 7". It came out on April 8th, 2008. It's available from Salinas Records, who have a REAL website, so go there: http://unshadowed.com/salinas/. In addition to that REAL website, they have a myspace: www.myspace.com/salinasrecords. They're in our Top Friends, too.
Our first tour started right after that on April 9th in State College PA, and ended April 20th in Buffalo NY. On the way we played the record store in Columbus which we're named after, many awesome houses, nearly had a show cancelled in Minneapolis which was rescued at the last second and brought to the classic Mnpls punkhouse: The Alamo!, rocked a raucous homecoming in Milwaukee, played an attic in Lansing MI in a neighborhood which had a serial killer on the loose, opened for BBQ (Mark Sultan) in Toronto (ruled), and on the final night, played the best show of our tour to a collection of humans and hobbits in the biggest house in the history of the universe - the cops came, so we started playing really quiet until they left, and then we TURNED THAT SHIT UP! All in all, the first Used Kids tour was awesome.
The Used Kids continued to play shows, tour, and release a few records, most notably our full-length album Yeah No, available on LP at salinasrecords.com, and downloadable for free at www.ifyoumakeit.com/used-kids-yeah-no. Get it! You'll love it.
As of the moment I'm writing this, on Halloween at Gainesville Fest 2009, the Used Kids will have played our last show, probably ever. Thanks go out to everyone who supported us, and listened to our songs. Everybody in the Used Kids has gone on to play more music in different bands. I still play most of the Used Kids songs I wrote, so if you want to hear 'em, let me know. That's all!

For all the "youth" out there that call themselves fans of rock and roll and still BELIEVE...well, if you don't have YEAH NO, then you're truly missing one of the only honest, beautiful pieces of what is surely to become a classic example of "contemporary" (ugh..) "under the radar" (ugh again, sorry) rock and roll that I have heard in years. That was a really long sentence. I'm hungover and caffienated and I apollogize. But USED KIDS have knelt at the alter, taken the sacrament, and done all who came before proper justice. I didn't mean for this to sound like a review, but I am just so amazingly overwhelmed with pleasure at the mere existence of this record that I just want to shit in my own pants. But I wont. I will just flip the record.
Kudos, brothers and sisters. I will see you in October. I apologize in advance for being "that guy."
Oh yeah, and I woke up hungry to 3 empty pizza boxes and didn't get 1 slice! But I'm sure that Russ was responsible for that.
Be safe kids. Don't ever stop believing in rock and roll.
i am sooo upset i missed yall at NPAF. i just got the new record and it is seriously my favorite thing ive heard in YEARS! please keep it up... its fucking awesome!
There appears to be something wrong with my Bruce Springsteen album. Someone spraypainted "USED KIDS" all over the front of it. It's the damnedest thing, i tell you.
Hey bros! Only a few premade designs are left for sale! This week I'm giving all bands a $10 discount off of those designs! Drop by, tell me whats up =]
