About me:
The USO was created in 1941 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to support the thousands of servicemembers who would shortly be entering the armed forces to meet the threat of a world war. The Pensacola branch of the USO was chartered in 1941 and opened in 1942 with the assistance of a congressional appropriation. Eleanor Roosevelt herself came to Pensacola for the grand opening of the newly constructed building on South Spring Street.
Although time and technology has changed over the years, the USO's mission has not. We will always provide the home-away-from-home for which we are famous for around the world and will continue to do so "Until Everyone Comes Home"
USO Pensacola participated in this parade that celebrated 450 years of Spanish Heritage. Known as the City of Five Flags, Pensacola was founded in 1559. USO staff, civilian and military volunteers carried out the age old tradition of throwing beads to the hundreds of people who lined the streets to see the parade.
