About me: The USS Austin LPD-4 has been decommissioned but lives on in the memories of those who served aboard her. This page is dedicated to that memory.
Thanks for the link Brian. Talked to a former shipmate BMSN Ral Elkins a couple of weeks ago from Indiana. He's struggling from PTSD from digging the Marines out of the barracks in Beruit Lebanon back in 83'. He's hanging in there but is a reminder that the Austin served in some pretty rough places during some tough times.
For those of you with Twitter accounts, there is now an Austin page on Twitter: http://twitter. com/USS_Austin It will pretty much just mirror this MySpace site (hoping it might help us find more of our missing shipmates who might not be on MySpace or Facebook).
The Uss Austin is in the Phila Navy Yard being decommissioned, I posted pics of her. It's a shame to see the old girl like that. Before I took the pics the last time I saw her was Nov 1990 as I was walking down the moon enginering pier and she was leaving for Op Desert Shield.
Hey Shipmates, I am still looking to contact a few guys I hung with. QM3 Liles... whom I have sent an email to but have not heard back from and a guy named Pangburn, him and I cranked in veg prep for a while, I think he was from Milwaukee. Also I would like to find FC2 Mark Clarke and BM3/SN Mike Caulkins, I believe Mike was from Chicago.
