Jason Kennedy was the former drummer of Phoenix based death metal band Excessive Bleeding and long time childhood friend of Anthony Storm. Jason passed at the age of only 33 on April 28, 2009 and was one of Phoenix's best drummers. I will miss you brother!
Wrath of wolves was conceived in the summer of 2005 by Anthony Storm former guitarist and founder of US based symphonic black metal band Blackstorm. Since the demise of Blackstorm in 2000 Storm was seeking a new start in a new direction of artistic expression. He opted to return to his roots of neo classical axe grinding and left the genre of black metal all together. Inspired by his influences with bands like Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Judas Priest, Exodus, Death, Rising Force, Iron Maiden, Destruction, Racer X, Annihilator, Anthrax, Slayer, Testament and Metallica Storm had created a beast! Storm was heavily influenced by shredders like Yngwie Malmsteen (Rising Force, Alcatrazz, Steeler) Andy LaRocque (King Diamond, Death) as well as Michael Denner and Hank Sherman (Mercyful Fate, King Diamond) when he was growing up in the 80's. Having this arsenal of styles in his chops was like a double edged sword waiting to be used. Storm refrained from alot of soloing in previous projects due to the temporary set back from Seattle's grunge scene that brushed the shredding style under the mat for nearly a decade! Now that metal has returned and guitar solo's are once again accepted Storm has plotted a new course in metal music.
In late 2005 Storm contacted artist Christophe Szpajdel who has designed the infamous logo's of Emperor, Enthroned, Desaster, Old Man's Child and Borknagar to create a unique logo for his new project. Within a week a logo was designed and was placed on hold until Storm could begin putting the Wrath of Wolves project together. Early 2006 material had begun to be written and by the end of 2007 as many as 8 songs had been completed. Storm selected four songs to be placed on a mini EP and began recording them on a digital recorder from home. In November of 2007 Storm was befriended by vocalist Joe Lawson (Blind Rage) and Lawson and Storm discussed placing vocals on pre-recorded Wolves material that had been laying dormant. December 2007 Storm sent a few tracks to Lawson for him to write lyrics to. Lawson wrote and recorded his ideas and then sent them back for Storm to review. Storm contacted Lawson shotly after and asked if he would record vocals for the EP and Lawson agreed. March 2008 Lawson flew down to Phoenix to record what is now the Obstreperous Dragon EP. Later, Lawson introduced Storm to Belgium based artist Kris Verwimp who is responsible for many album covers for acts such as Marduk, Old Man's Child, ABSU, Arch Enemy, Nagelfar and many more. Storm who knew of Verwimp's work yet did not know Verwimp personally gave him the concept for The Obstreperous Dragon cover and Verwimp made a few rough sketches until one was agreed on. Verwimp delivered what is now seen as a seven headed Hydra depicted attacking multiple wolves from a remote shore in a distant land. This amazing piece is now featured as the Wrath of Wolves "Obstreperous Dragon" CD cover now seen on the net. Storm has opted to keep Wrath of Wolves a studio project for now and has been in contact with Patrick Johansson (Yngwie Malmsteen) for session drum work for the debut full length.
