Utah Snowkiting School kiting Powder Mountain Resort, Pineview Reservoir, and Monte Cristo. Drop us a line if you're in the area, will steer you in the right direction.
My interest, spreading the snowkiting addiction. Affects may vary.
"He must be on something" I overhear a girl say as I assume
my wind-checking stance: arms up, torso swiveling. Hello, my name is Wes
Matweyew, and I am a kite junkie.
It started harmlessly enough with the gateway drugs of
surfing and skateboarding. My family was selling these "narcotics" out of our
surf shop, so they were easy to get. It wasn't long before I was into the
harder drugs such as snowboarding, mountain biking, and mountain boarding. Soon
I was building up a tolerance and needed larger and larger doses to get my
high. Somewhere around 1999 I hit rock bottom, depressed and bored. I needed a
new drug.
Salvation came from one of the biggest pushers in the
world. World extreme snowboarding champion Steve Klassen had been experimenting
with a cocktail mixing snowboarding with a kite, something he got hooked on in
Europe. Like any experienced pusher, Steve said, "here, try this. It's only
two lines, it's not the hard-core four-line stuff!" Soon I was hooked on the
most addictive drug of all kiteboarding.
Today I continue to
use kiting, sell product, teach others to use, anything to help pay for my
habit. Now homeless, living in a van in the C Street parking lot, I find myself
in the downward spiral of a pusher/user who would much rather get high off his
own supply than sell his stash.

Warning
Any form of kiting
is highly addictive. Do not participate in this sport if you are having
difficulties at work, school, with your marriage or family. You will feel the
addiction after your first trainer kite session. It will leave you with the
need for more. Feeling the power of a big kite and the adrenaline high that
comes with the act will deepen the addiction. Once kite riding, you will spend
countless hours watching weather reports and fabricating your own weather
predictions. You will spend excessive late night hours on kite forums. You
will begin spending a large sum of money on kites, boards, and gas. You will
alienate yourself from the general population with your constant kite chatter
with few people to understand your addiction. Participate in this sport only if
you have a strong constitution.

Music
I like it all. Getting a little old for rap, but I was down with sir mix alot, beasty boys, run dmc, public enemy. Tool is probably my favorite "bang my head" music right up there with suicidal Tendencies. Garth got me into Country and I'm still digging it where the green grass grows. My favorite has to be beach/punk like Rancid, NOFX, etc.. Are people still making music?
Movies
Manly movies like Rambo, Highlander, Gladiator, 8 Mile, the Last Samuri even though T Cruise is in it.
Television
Really don't watch it except for the Tour de France and some Fuel and OLN TV.
Books
Never was good at it, except for killing time on expeditions.
Heroes
Not really proud of this, but action figures, Scott Schmidt, Jeremy McGrawth, ski film stars, Chasta, anybody who really REALLY kicks ass in what they do. My wife is actually the most incredible Real Life person, honestly, I don't think there is anyone on the planet that could compare.

About me: I'm just a guy that's trying to make a living doing something I love. I've heard you shouldn't do that, but I'm one to follow my heart. For some strange reason things always have worked out. The nuns tried to get rid of me and said I didn't fit in. By the will of my Mom, I stayed. I was good freinds with Janitor because of all the detention. The news paper guy said I was to fat and ugly to be a swimmer during an interview, still got tons of blue ribbons. Scout master and other leaders said this guy won't last long, I became an Eagle Scout. I was never faster than anyone in BMX, but could take most of them out in the turns. I have the worst vertical jump and slowest 40 yard time, but got a football scholarship and went on to get All Conference, Honorable mention anyways. Only girl I've ever loved dumped me and got married to another guy, so I waited for her. Had way to much fun in college. Football Coach said I couldnt ski, so I joined the Ski team. Ski Coach said stay on piste, ya right. Grades weren't so good and couldnt get a 'real' job. Didnt have much money so traveled Europe, 3 months, $20/day. No grad school would take me, so I chose one, University of Colorado at Boulder. Earned a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering with thesis work with the USGS. The only girl I've ever loved, found me 7 years later. Proposed to her on the roof top of Europe, mt blanc. 2 kids later, things have never been the same. I've never felt so right, but still desparately need freedom in the outdoors. Although I'm not the smartest kid on the block, employers liked me. I'd rather do my own thing. I started my own engineering company and earn a summer income. After participating in sports like rock, ice, and mountain climbing, kayaking, MT Biking, surfing, skiing, and snowboarding, my latest adddiction is kiteboarding and snowkiting. The first few kitemares indicated I shouldn't do this, but I've never been one to listen. Now, I hope to spread my addition to others, earn a wage, and be that best Dad and Husband that I can be. That's about me..

"When you feel the power
and addiction of snowkiting, it leaves you with the need for more. When you
get more, you begin to want to share the excitement with others."
Utah Kite Addiction, based in
beautiful Ogden Valley, will be the first and only PASA Certified
Snowkiting School in Utah dedicated to sharing the addiction of
snowkiting. Surrounded with riding areas like Powder Mountain, Monte
Cristo, Pineview Reservoir, and local fields, this is the perfect place to
learn to snowkite. In a rare event it is not blowing at one of these
locations, enjoy a day of skiing or boarding at Powder Mountain and
Snowbasin Resorts.
We safely and affectively teach
our clients the fundamentals of snowkiting thus starting their journey into
the sport of snowkiting and kite riding. Other forms
of kite riding include kiteboarding on water, kitesurfing waves, kite land
boarding, and kite buggying. Learning to snowkite is the easiest and safest way to get
into kite riding.

Who I'd like to meet: All you guys and ladies that want to learn to snowkite. I really admire those that "go big" in sports and life. Most limiting boundries are the ones we make up in our heads. I admire people that dream big, explore the limits, and go against the norm.
