I use Ableton Live
( do you really wanna read all of this? don't feel obligated, give me an input form and I am compelled to answer comprehensively...)
musical influences are many many-- lately, it's been classical and electronic. I could name a bunch of things I've liked to listen to, but my major real influences in order of 'impression made' (that is, not necessarily that these were 'impressive' but that they got into my ears and stuck) have been Beethoven, Bach, Burl Ives, Miriam Makeba, Dinah Washington, Fats Domino, Chubby Checker, Dave Clark Five, Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs, Burt Bacharach, Motown (for song form), [no Elvis, parents weren't too impressed], Beach Boys (good vibrations), James Brown, Beatles, Cream. Santana, Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT (biggest guitar influences-- DiMeola, Hendrix, Buck Dharma and Santana), various jam bands including Rare Earth, Grateful Dead, Seatrain and New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Allman Brothers; "proto electronic" like W. Carlos and Tomita (Snowflakes are Dancing really amazed me when I first heard it). "musically advanced", like: Mahavishnu Orchestra, Zappa, Brand X, Holdsworth/UK; various classic Rock/Metal including sabbath, mountain, blue oyster cult; various folkish-rock like Traffic, CSNY; all the artists on the Woodstock albums; various 'Fusion" including Return to Forever, Jan Hammer, Weather Report, Michael Urbaniak and Stanley Clarke solo (his first albun, the one with Vulcan Princess, not school daze) and Todd Rundgren's Utopia; various crunch metal/proto-punk/punk including Velvet Underground, Ramones, Clash; Motorhead (yep, briefly, have to admit, for conciseness of lyrics "Leave me alone, I've got a heart of stone"); 70-80s sorta strange but actually mainstream rock like Modern Lovers, David Bowie, Missing Persons, Lou Reed, Tubes, Talking Heads and then actually strange and never mainstream like King Crimson/Fripp, Heldon, Gong, Throbbing Gristle. Also 80s, Cheap Trick, Boston, Cars, Gary Numan, Men with Hats, oh, yeh the continual Billy Squire/Def Leppard soundtrack had to have done some damage during those years. Rush! yeh, Rush. I've been impressed during the 90s by alt which turned into mainstream, and of those the sort of out of left field basically fleeting acts or one hit wonders, School of Fish, Eve9, Veruca Salt, Stabbing Westward, Evanescence; probably the thing that stands out most in the 90s-00s is NIN; and then electronic like the little glimpses of Aphex Twin, Chemical Brothers, Monolake, Hawtin that I've had... anything I hear electronic impresses me one way or the other at this point
What I actually sound like, by instrument:
guitar: more inclined to distorted than clean, Hendrix, DiMeola, Santana
rhythms: from electro to tribal-electronic to funk/hiphop. The samples on the page here are pretty rhythmically representative.
keys: more inclined to melodies than chords, if like anything maybe like Jan Hammer
vox: Don't know who has influenced me most-- Robert Plant, I guess. People have said I sound like Joy Division, Jim Morrison, Bowie or "more depressed than Morrissey" but I'm not trying to.. sometimes this concerns me.
Sounds Like
People have said: Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode, Crystal Method, Joy Division, Boards of Canada, John Foxx
long time musician, trained in audio engineering, guitar, keys, vocals-- in several many bands throughout the years, then rediscovered music through computers.
Albums are self produced, generally in the dead of nite, hope you enjoy the sounds
Thanks for stopping by, you are rare. Note that adding Utenzil as a friend has been reported to have had certain curative effects: some have mentioned visions of enlightenment and feelings of tranquility, some are able to experience vivid sensations and attain deep philosophical understanding, others claim to have had warts and bunions miraculously disappear, and still others have indicated a profound sense of well-being when their add request is approved.
Utenzil makes no claims in regards to the above, but if you share an interest in electronic music like my other MySpace friends, please do not hesitate to add Utenzil.
***MP3 Clips are just two minute samples, free download on band website***
