Just listening to good music kicks off something in my head and follow-on tunes just start flowing.
Favorite other DC area bands. Many styles here from hard-core punk to funk to country to pop, but great musicianship and energy in all these bands (go see them while you're in town!):
An original project (finally!) to play some of my material live. It's slow going because some of my stuff is actually a lot harder to reproduce than I would have guessed, and it's tough to get everyone together often enough to practice the learned stuff and keep it fresh AND work on new stuff.
Trinity United Methodist Church, where I sing tenor in the choir and occasionally play piano during Communion. - Note the links to my other page to hear recordings of some of this music.
Lisa Taylor and Friends - Lisa is a national caliber singer/songwriter, and I am proud and lucky to play any chance I can with her when she has her whole band - see below for dates/times/locations.
Cover Up - Party rock you can dance to. Big fun. You know every song. We play lots in NoVa. hover over the microscopic lines below a particular venue if you want details (address, phone, start time) about it.
Upcoming shows with Cover Up include but are not limited to:
OCTOBER
Sat 10/17 1:00 PM - Great Country Farms, Bluemont, VA
Sat 10/24 time TBD Barktoberfest, Sterling VA
Sister is a band of which I have very fond memories ('93-'97). Just Say was one of several original tunes we did. 2009 Wammie Award Winner Lisa Taylor (see my Favs below)
(True North;
Icarus;
Sibling Rivalry)
penned the lyrics, smacked the drums and sang the back-up vox. Her sister, Dana Connor, kicked the pants off the lead vox, and Lisa's husband Jim thumped bass and Steve Long cranked guitar. Smokin song. Sure miss those glory days. But I'm not sitting still.
It was annoying to have to pick which 5 to put up here. it's like, which is your favorite child? =/
Here's a great version of >>"You Are Here" with vocals<<, I've got that up on GarageBand. Jimmie Bonner (Tidewater, VA, last I saw him) did some great lyrics and vocals.
I've lived mostly in the Northern Virginia area, but have played in bands based in Steamboat Springs, CO; San Francisco, CA; and the Virginia Tidewater area; and I've played in clubs from San Antonio to Indianapolis and from Los Angeles to Ocean City, MD.
I love to just sit and play the piano at my church when no one is there. The acoustics are awesome, and it pulls some interesting kind of new age stuff out of my head. But I also like to rock.
Music to me is like a cosmic river that is always flowing past. Sometimes I dip into it, and sometimes it floods me out. But I'd much rather have it than not. I guess it's sort of like sight -- some people are blind, some see the light dimly and others are overwhelmed (like Diane Warren).
Video of Icarus, Mar 7 at Bangkok Blues, Falls Church VA supporting Lisa Taylor:
As Thanksgiving Day rolls around, It brings up some facts, quite profound. We may think that we're poor, Feel like bums, insecure, But in truth, our riches astound.
We have friends and family we love; We have guidance from heaven above. We have so much more Than they sell in a store, We're wealthy, when push comes to shove.
So add up your blessings, I say; Make Thanksgiving last more than a day. Enjoy what you've got; Realize it's a lot, And you'll make all your cares go away.

Hi there, I know It's kind of early but I wanted to make sure I get to everyone on my friends list because this is one of my favorite holidays of the year. I am a proud American and the 4th of July is a day to remember all those who have fought and are still fighting for our freedom. While we Sleep They Wake, While We enjoy our bbq's and swim in the pool.. They're defending our borders and eating sand. I salute all the men and women who make it possible everyday for my children and I to live a free life and if you are one of them ~~ From the bottom of my heart I THANK YOU!!! So Please take a moment on the 4th and remember what it really stands for... That Red White and Blue is not just a piece of cloth.. It is a SYMBOL of our freedom and the men and women who fight for it.
Happy Independence Day!!!! ~Kim
I'm Proud To Be An American Written By Lee Greenwood
If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life, And I had to start again with just my children and my wife, I'd thank my lucky stars to be living here today, 'Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away.
I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free, And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me, And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today, ' Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God Bless the U.S.A.
From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee, Across the plains of Texas from sea to shining sea. From Detroit down to Houston and New York to L.A. , There's pride in every American heart and it's time we stand and say:
I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free, And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me, And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today, ' Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God Bless the U.S.A.
