About me: Ultraviolent was formed in 1999 when 2 guys named Mark and I met at the Red Lion bar in a small town in Texas.
Mark G. was a tough kid who was short in stature but had plenty of fight in him. He had grown up in the country with a mother that raised him to handle anything that came his way. While Mark G. was a good natured, but he wasn't one to back down from a fight. He would always go for the biggest guy in the bunch if there was a conflict, his motto was “A good punch in the throat works wonders, if you can't breath you can't fight”. This take no shit attitude seemed to land him in trouble on several occasions though, and while many times he was lucky enough to have the cops take him behind the station and give him a good beating before letting him go. The last time he was arrested and was facing serious charges. He made a deal to avoid jail time and go into the Army. He found that it helped educate him, and gave him a desire to stay clear of trouble. He got out, moved away to Texas and later met Chris.
I inherited my love for motorcycles from my father and my artistic ability from my mom. While my relationship with my dad was rough, I always respected him. I always seemed to be just waiting for trouble to come around the corner. Many of my friends were already dead or in prison, and with several arrests for aggravated assault I realized it was time to put my energy into a more positive direction. I met Mark in 1999 and we became good friends. Mark was one of the few people who could always be counted on.
Mark was running a screen printing company and I was doing graphic design for several websites. While at local bar in Texas, me and Mark, met a young German named Mark H. who ran with a football firm back home. It seemed that he was “visiting” the states out of necessity, since he had a run in with a bus driver back home that left the driver bloody and unconscious and the German caught on camera with the bloody fists (and belt buckle) that put him there. The German wore a shirt with the word “UltraViolent” emblazoned on it. We all liked it and I suggested to come up with a clothing line that expanded on that name.
Later he went home to Germany after working out a plea bargain for a reduced sentence. While we both promised to stay in touch he disappeared and was not heard from again.
Mark G. started offsetting his income printing shirts by driving a cab at night, and even though I insisted he look for a safer line of work he was sure he would be ok, adding that he had his 9mm on him at all times.
Soon after he started he picked up 3 customers from a low income project, and they took him out to a field to rob him. They shot him in the back of the head and took the $6.00 he had in his wallet.
Mark's gun had been pawned earlier that week to pay the bills for him and his 5 year old son.
I bought the screen printing equipment from Marks mother who needed to sell it to help raise his son. Using the equipment he started expanding UltraViolent.
Not long after, my dad came down with cancer from asbestos exposure he received while in the Marine Corps. he died soon after. My dad instilled an appreciation for hard work, and taught me the meaning of tough. He never stopped working hard for what he wanted and he fought like hell until the end.
While the only physical possessions he left me was a King James Bible and a pair of brass knuckles. The memory of having a good father will be passed down to my children and theirs.
