but next up a double 7" vinyl 4 track EP from Naïm Amor (August 31st):
Somewhere in the year of 2006 Naim Amor and I spent some time in Tucson playing acoustic guitars, talking about songs, searching for old vintage guitars to refurbish and thinking of making a record at home with the idea to make a "late night and laid back" feeling album. I loved the whole way in which we constructed the tracks, each with an acoustic guitar and adding a few overdubs or John Convertino's lush brush work on the drums. We were aiming at making sparse arrangements that gave a sense of depth and atmosphere to Naim's hushed vocals.
The song "Precious Second" stands out as one of the strongest tracks both melodically and lyrically. The song builds on the interweaving acoustic guitars, and the backbeat shuffle of the brushes, but it is Naim's vocals together with the jazz/folk harmonic shifts in the bridge which paint the mood and emotional twist of time and place. I love how the second half of the song transitions out of the melodic guitar solo and into the final chorus. You hear Naim's vocals become consumed in a sea of reverb as the song continues to unfold. These subtleties in phrasing and vocal emphasis is what pulls you in and makes you want to untangle the simple lines that are woven so well.
Joey Burns, August 2009
our first album release comes from London based avant-rock band Lost Robots, and is a fusing of exciting, compact structures with free improvisation and abstract sound. It's title 'No' reflects, perhaps a reluctance by the band to settle into any perceived style, and instead presents us with a kaleidoscopic array of adventurous sounds, songs and non-sequiturs.
poet, saxophonist and puppeteer Ted Milton leads Blurt out on their first offering of new material in almost 10 years - repetitious and infectious grooves of solid robotic drumming combine with minimalist guitar patterns, wild bursts of free form sax and dramatically demonic vocals on this double A side 7" featuring "Cut It!" and "Hat".
our fourth release comes courtesy of Terry Edwards & the Scapegoats (Jem Moore, Simon Pearson and guest trombonist Mike Kearsey). the lead track is a brassy carnivalesque romp, as those famous "Three Blind Mice" - sporting shades purchased from Walt Jabsco - party blue-beat style to the sound of distant steel drums.
released into the world one summer's evening at one of our regular Scaledown shows, before disappearing into the London night; but made a welcome return post-Glastonbury 2008. includes 3 versions of "Over And Over" by Country Dad, one featuring special guest Naïm Amor.
next up is a 10" EP from Paris born/Tucson dwelling Naïm Amor. two tracks apiece from the albums 'Sanguine' and 'Mistake Love', recorded with the help of John Parish + Joey Burns & John Convertino of Calexico.
our very first release comes from Orchestra Pit favourites Pocket - probably the finest urban surf quartet to come out of London, N16 - with a 7" single coupling "Ready To Go" and "Stupid Cat".
