Valerie MarKell is a vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist. Her warm honey voice weaves a rich tapestry - romantic, beautiful, and grounded. Val plays with a passionate and soulful down to the bone quality. Her voice has a sweet purity and silky depth that is like a velvet caress, provoking emotion beyond the words.
Valerie approaches each song as a piece of art - with passionate symbolic themes that reach deep into the heart of the listener. Val's earliest musical influences were her parents, who both enjoyed singing. They often sang as a family rolling down the road together. Those early roots have resulted in a love of music that is vocally based. Valerie’s Indie/Folk styling is apparent in both her original works and renditions of other’s music. Others have described Val as a vocal cross between Judy Collins and Grace Slick.
A Northwest Native, Val makes her home on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington. All that rain can lead to days of navel gazing introspection, and sometimes creative gems are born among the mud puddles. She has recently completed a CD project, Spring Thaw, Valerie Markell – Live!

Every month Port Gamble is open one evening for a fun event called 'First Friday Artwalk'. Stores stay open late, artists are present to talk about their work, and the General Store hosts a gourmet meal.
This Friday we will be open late hosting local artist Corena Chamberlain. Corena makes beautiful candle luminaries that are wonderful accents to any home. Her new holiday colors are here, and they are superb!
Corena will share with you about her work, and she will also have special luminaries for sale at this event. Come see these and her new line of snowman luminary ornaments. They are cute and make great gifts!
In addition to our event, other Port Gamble stores will be open late. The General Store will be hosting a gourmet meal: this month the main entree is northwest salmon served with mango salsa! Yum!
We are open until 8:00pm, but last month friends were here later than that, shopping and laughing! We had a great time. Lights snacks and beverages will be served with laughs on the side.
We hope you can come out tomorrow, it would be great to see you!
Blessings and abundance to you, Katherine and Sean Harmony by the Bay
