Looking back, I realize that one of the turning points in my life was as a preteen when I became the "Monday through Friday cook" as my mother worked. I loved it. She had taught me her recipes but I quickly wanted to try new foods and the experimentation began.Moving to California opened up a whole new range of ingredients. At that time much of what is available in California was not shipped to Pennsylvania.
During my working years as an Operating Room and Emergency RN, I had ample time for international travel. I love to experience a country through it's food (#1), music and people, as well as it's art and history. Mainly I want to soak up the essence of the area.
Now both my husband and I are retired and spend much of our time sailing our boat, Raptor Dance. It is a social life and we are often cooking and entertaining on our boat. Our friends are always telling me I should write a cook book or that we should have a cooking show. Hmmm. For now, we readily share our recipes and post some on our website.
So far we have been sailing the west coast of Canada, the USA and Mexico. As we travel on Raptor Dance, we pull up fresh seafood for our dinners, like crabs, shrimp and oysters in Canada, and fish in Mexico. I am always learning and being inspired either by the food in a new area, classes or Food TV shows.
