About me:
I grew up and live in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The particular region I live in is known as the Winelands, for a very good, very obvious reason - we make wine here. (I'm drinking wine right now.)
I've been a professional musician for seventeen years. I'm a songwriter, a singer and a guitar player. I've released twelve albums, all with original songs, mainly in my mother tongue, Afrikaans, which is an exotic mix of our own version of Dutch, all things Germanic, French, and African. Plus a few others. And, of course, English.
I play gigs all the time, either with my 5-piece band, or solo acoustic. I travel all over South Africa for performances, and I've played live in England, Holland, the USA and Namibia.
I've also had an innings or two as a TV star. The first time around I was the presenter of a documentary series on blues music, for which I had to blues-cruise through Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana for 40 days (a fantastic adventure). Following that, I played the male lead in a hugely popular Afrikaans drama series, for which I also composed the soundtrack music. It turned me into a household name in South Africa and it was a fabulous career boost, but, to be honest, I prefer just playing music.
I've been happily married to Lanelle for fourteen years now, and we are blessed with two beautiful kids, Robert(13) and Helena(3).
I would describe myself as happy-go-lucky, friendly, peaceful, humorous, philosophical, slightly lazy and a bit shy.
I love partying with my friends (I'm a platinum party animal, well versed in all things rock 'n roll) as much as chilling with my family at our river cabin, either boat cruising or next to a log fire with some red wine, mellow tunes, laughter and a good book.
